This loss of trust in Germany's policy can also have huge economic cost. Trust is an important value when you want to make business and Germany seems to be on a road to jeopardizing this trust for short run profits of some manufacturing firms.

Your strategy of incremental sanctions doesn’t work. Cannot work… That’s why 212 members of Parliament demand a special #EUCO meeting to decide on full sanctions immediately! My speech👇🏻

@christianbaye13 & me have been thinking about the big differences in mortality rates so far during the corona outbreak in Europe. The differences in case-fatality rates are humongous. Italy has one of 6% while countries like Norway, Denmark & Germany have rates still close to 0.

Professional news: After 13 years and hopefully, after having grown up a bit, I left @UniBonn this summer to return to my alma mater @EconUniMannheim. On day 1, my office was still pretty empty but this will change quickly & I am excited about the future. 1/5

Former chief econ advisor to Putin Illarionov said if Western countries "would try to implement a real embargo on oil and gas exports... I would bet that probably within a month or 2, 🇷🇺 military operations in 🇺🇦, probably will be ceased, will be stopped"

This share varies dramatically across countries. From shares below 5% in countries like France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, to cases like Japan, China, South Korea, and Italy with shares above 20%.

Italy is surely an outlier in both dimensions and the CFR will hopefully go down in the end. However, what the graph tells us is that the structure of social interactions seems to clearly matter and that social distancing needs to regard particularly the elderly.
