Keir Starmer has constantly put factionalism ahead of the Labour Party and ahead of the country. Mainstream in The @guardian.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌹A statement from Mainstream's Interim Council on Labour's tragic loss in Caerphilly. We will be wiped out in Wales next May without a major reset.
Labour’s historic defeat in Caerphilly is a tragedy, but not a surprise. So long as UK Labour governs without a clear vision and story to tell people who we are, detached from its moral purpose and democratic socialist foundations, losses like this will only become the norm. A majority of voters in Caerphilly turned to Plaid Cymru and a significant number to Reform because they want change. The only way to resist this is by offering a popular, principled and practical left politics that can transform the country by raising living standards, redistributing power and wealth, and securing a stake for everyone in a national community that guarantees the essentials of a good life for all. That requires rejecting the hyper-factional culture determined to concentrate power at the top of the party. Instead, Labour must draw upon the wisdom, talent, and energy of its whole movement to build an offer that can inspire the public. Time is short. We must reconnect Labour with its mainstream.

NEW: Labour's CAC has reversed its decision to block motions on ending the two-child benefit limit. Without an end to the two-child benefit limit, the Government's Child Poverty Strategy is doomed to fail. A statement from Mainstream's Interim Council below👇
We welcome that the CAC will allow Conference the opportunity to debate ending the two-child benefit limit.

Ending the two-child limit is the single biggest action that Labour could take to reduce child poverty. Today’s news offers hope for the 4.5 million children living in poverty across the UK.

This is also a win for the mainstream of the Labour Party. 84% of Labour members back the ending of the two-child limit. The CAC’s initial decision to block this motion threatened to entrench the hostility to debate and discussion that is rooting itself in our party - and undermining Labour’s offer to the country.

We urge delegates to Conference to support this motion in the Priorities Ballot. The Government’s Child Poverty Strategy is doomed to fail without an end to the two-child limit. In a country as wealthy as the UK, allowing child poverty to deepen is a political choice. This is our moment to make sure Labour chooses differently.

We're disappointed that the two-child benefit limit won't be debated at Labour Party Conference. Social justice must be returned to the heart of Labour's programme and the mainstream of our party, which overwhelmingly backs an end to the limit, must be heard.

🌹Mainstream's Interim Council sends its congratulations to @LucyMPowell, whom we endorsed after a ballot of our members. This result must mark a shift toward a broader, bolder politics within Labour - so that we can build a democratic socialist programme to inspire the country.
Mainstream’s Interim Council sends its congratulations to Labour’s new Deputy Leader, Lucy Powell, whom we endorsed after a ballot of our members. Lucy ran a positive campaign advocating for pluralism, democracy and a cultural course correction, pledging to bring members, affiliates and communities into Labour’s decision-making. Ending the two-child benefit limit, which we campaigned for at this year’s party conference, was also central to her campaign. Lucy’s victory today is a win for Labour’s mainstream. It shows that the majority of our movement wants Labour to be open, participatory and inclusive. Members have rejected the hyper-factional, top-down culture culpable for the missteps of our first year in government. The failed experiment in political centralisation being pursued by a tiny group at the top of the party must now end. The low turnout in this contest is a sign of the disillusionment and plummeting morale that this culture is provoking. This result must mark a shift.
