Where did you grow up? A new @Nature paper by @hugospiers and colleagues shows that if you grew up in a city organized on a grid, you are likely less good at navigation compared to your peers who grew up in places with winding roads nature.com/articles/s4158…

I'm always very impressed with @nature's table of contents, but I find this week's to be particularly impressive. First, we featured two behavioral economics papers by Raj Chetty et al on the cover, showing our expansion into the behavioral and social sciences

I'm very lucky because every paper "I" publish is a @Nature paper. But that doesn't take away the thrill of seeing good work out! The latest is work by @UeliRutishauser et al describing how the human brain creates cognitive maps of related concepts

Can two males have a baby? A @nature paper published today shows how cells from mature male mice can be made into oocytes that can then be fertilized by another mouse. The result? Live, healthy mouse babies with two daddies nature.com/articles/s4158…

What makes hair turn grey? A @nature paper shows that melanocytes travel up and down the hair follicle (in mice) and switch back and forth between mature and young states. When they stop moving they stop producing pigment

On my last day of work in 2021, I want to highlight some of the great content that @Nature has published in the behavioral and social sciences. I’ll break these down into two threads: primary research (below) and another tweet on our special issue on computational social science

Do you notice that there are fewer publications by women than men? A @nature paper shows that this is, in part, because women are less likely to be credited as authors for their scientific contribution @IRIS_UMETRICS @NYUWagner @M_B_Ross @BrittaGlennon

Women are credited less in science than men
Nature - The difference between the number of men and women listed as authors on scientific papers and inventors on patents is at least partly attributable to unacknowledged contributions by women...
