If you missed it, my article on landlords using sustainability and social justice language to hide their exploitative tactics is now available to read for free on @maisonneuvemag
I keep seeing people ask why people took COVID so seriously back in 2020/21 but not now. We actually already have the answer!!
If you didn't guess racism and anti-Blackness, well you should've!
Imagine acting like you can't mask at raves when ravers literally created gas mask fashion IN RESPONSE TO THE POOR AIR QUALITY of DIY rave venues. Like tell me you're a poser without telling me you're a poser.
This is every friend who went through something traumatic and weren't expecting to have to choose between faking being okay or being vulnerable around someone they haven't built that trust with. Fastest way to get demoted from friend to acquaintance
This is why I actually think talking like this actually only fuels the "it's endemic, we have to just live our lives" narrative. If we tell people that everything they do is rendered useless if they don't adopt a perfect mask routine, why would they bother even doing the minimum?
If what I’m understanding about how unmasking **even for a moment** breaks the seal & contaminates the bubble of clean air inside the mask is accurate then…I am just literally never breathing c*vid free air, ever. I don all my masks in my home, w 3 other non covid safe ppl. lol
We saw this in 2020. During all those "traumatizing" lockdowns, there were booms of collective organizing, people were less burnt out and paying more attention, there was even an improvement in the environment. Why do you think it was so important to "return to normal"?
I genuinely believe we are witnessing the birth of new civil rights and labor movements and we should be absolutely prepared for attempts at squashing and destabilizing this unified momentum
As a multiply marginalized disabled person who can't watch one comedy show without having to see an entire audience laugh at at least one of my identities, it would actually mean the world to me if my loved ones would stop letting it slide all the time and KO'd ableists instead
The fact that people are getting offended by the AIDS & Covid comparison is precisely the point. Why it’s powerful and necessary.
Because covid is playing out almost exactly the same way the AIDS crisis did in the 80s but on a much, much larger scale.
