People like this don't understand that a large proportion of Gen Z males have no idea where this kind of dismissive hostility is even coming from. It's totally inexplicable to them. And when they express that feeling, they're met with increased hostility for being confused.

Here's the entire Holdo plot: Holdo is condescending & withholding toward Poe while appearing incompetent for most of her screentime. She then reveals she was right to do everything she did & is in fact the greatest hero of all time. Then she deus ex machinas the fleet to death.

A lot of people just have a really poorly calibrated sense of how self-aware George Lucas is. Like, I guarantee you he knows "Elan Sleazebaggano" is a stupidly on-the-nose name. That's why he gave it to a throwaway character whose entire role in the movie is a joke.

Burn Notice from 2007 is an example of a show that's severely underrated because it was an old-style procedural with primarily self-contained episodes, in an era where long-from prestige storytelling was becoming more valued. But its execution of its format is endlessly creative.

It's bad writing where you can actually see what went wrong: The whole plot was conceived solely as a delivery mechanism for the twist/subversion at the end. So there's nothing else going on. It's how the entire film was written.

At the beginning of The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon tells Obi-Wan to de-center his negative emotions and focus on the moment. At the climax, Obi-Wan defeats Maul not through grief and rage but by calming himself and realizing Qui-Gon's lightsaber is available to him.

Even if you accept that framing, there's still no good story here. But the reality is we like Poe, while Holdo comes across as rude and off-putting. If her behavior caused someone like Poe to feel he had to mutiny, that's a failure of leadership.
