this is not hating on op but i think that honestly that the author intended to show that through the matriarchal groups that simply being led by women isn’t enough when there was a foundation built upon misogyny and influenced by men (1/2)

this may be a hot take, but i feel like some YA books grossly underestimate their audience and don’t trust their readers. i would feel SO frustrated reading some of the YA books out there when i was 14-17

because the queendom of inys was established through a man who had tarnished history to construct a narrative that made him the savior instead of honoring the woman who truly was the savior, unlike the matriarchy that was present in the priory. the contrast i believe was (2/3)

intentional to show that feminist movements and simply being led by women isn’t enough, we must actively deconstruct the systems and ideologies and all of the effects that’s have stemmed from misogyny, we must tear down that foundation before we can build something new (3/3)
