AI is bigger than any single person, company or country. Whether this technology is good depends on cooperation by both industry and governments to set an international framework that amplifies the good that these very powerful technologies can deliver.

Right, I'm going on the anti-Trump demo. I had no intention to but his crazed attacks on the EU, NATO, and WTO have changed things. Plus his best UK pals are Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson and Piers Morgan. He dislikes everything I believe in and believes in everyone I dislike! 1/2

We have received requests from a number of Governments and the EU to take further steps in relation to Russian state controlled media. Given the exceptional nature of the current situation, we will be restricting access to RT and Sputnik across the EU at this time.

Govt drops axing free school lunches cos it listened "very carefully" to public. Has it looked "very carefully" at latest polls on Brexit?

Donald Tusk is right. The world has moved on since June 2016. Brexiteers keep banging on about freedom, but one of the greatest freedoms is the freedom to change your mind.

When I set up the Social Mobility Commission I told Alan Milburn that his job was to tell truth to power. Looks like this government doesn’t want to listen. His resignation is a huge setback to the social mobility cause. This Brexit fixated government should be ashamed of itself.

I will stand again. My constituents & millions across UK deserve better than Theresa May’s hard Brexit & Jeremy Corbyn’s hapless leadership

The economic arguments for staying in the EU become clearer by the day, but we need to win the argument for heads AND hearts. You can be a proud British patriot and a passionate pro-European at the same time - they are not mutually exclusive.

John Major is absolutely right. It's high time that Parliament, and not a hard Brexit clique, spoke for our country.

Alert: plastic bag theft. Daily Mail - once again - claims front page victory today for plastic bag tax. When I introduced the levy in government - despite much Conservative scepticism - Darth Dacre played no role at all. Never let the facts get in the way of self-importance...

Don't think I've actually forced anyone into a same-sex marriage but proud to have given people the choice though.

Thanks for the kind petition to put me in the Lords, but I'm afraid an unelected chamber is not for me. Ermine just isn't my thing... 3/3

When I announced a plastic bag tax in 2013, there was great opposition from the Conservative Party and business groups. Now everyone is clamouring for it to be extended to all shops. Progress!
