I recently spoke with the matchless @TheZeinabBadawi and the incredible @BBCHARDtalk team regarding art and culture's role in communal changemaking and building new worlds, touching on @thisisthenest's and other wonderful work! Have a listen here:

"I was left there holding the responsibility of 5 children all by myself" was his EXACT plan for her? He was running a FEVER on day 1 of solo parental responsibility when this babe was clearly a single mother this whole time?

So this Nigerian man in the UK told his wife he wanted a divorce and would move out and send money for the kids. The wife just said okay and the next day she came back to Nigeria and left him with the children. Now he’s spiraling that how can she abandon her children. Love ittt😭

As an intern I delivered (by CS) a baby who was so light skinned that his much darker skinned mother denied him for 3 days. She was SO afraid of her husband's family's reaction. This is why random statements like ⬇️ can't be spread carelessly. Paranoia precedes violence.

Yup, there is data on this. Meanwhile, with small things like diet change, eg the man has to start eating low sodium, the whole house shifts to "encourage" him. If it's the woman, 2 sets of meals are cooked (often by her): hers and what everyone else will eat. No "encouragement"

Our ancestors needed visas. VISAS. To move "legally" using specific routes, on specific days, at specific times, ON THEIR VERY OWN LAND. On Their Very Own Land. On. Their. Very. Own. Land.

Suppression of the MauMau was from 1952-1960. Most of our grandparents (born 1920s) were oppressed. Pic is my Grandmother's movement pass. I cannot mourn.

May she and her baby fly from glow to glow, and abundance to abundance. As one of the great poets and philosophers of our time said, "You won't break my soul"

"Jidishi" is a very elegant and euphemistic way to say "go fuck yourself" Much simpler and clearer than the English. Wondering where quasicolonial ideas of sounding intellectual during insults are coming from when the world of the insult generally is deep and wide

The conversation about the place of a good friend when a loved one is being abused by a partner is ravaging. There are many contradictory, ugly realities and all of them are true. I am thinking about Elianne Andam, who was just 15 when her friend's ex killed her with a machete.
