APPEAL | Were you at Sandhaven Beach in South Shields on bank holiday Monday, May 25? You could be witness to an assault which left a man in his 30s injured. Shortly before 3.55pm that day, officers already on duty were alerted to an injured person in the dunes. 1/4

The male victim sustained minor injuries to his head and was taken to hospital to be checked over. A 14-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and was later released under investigation. 3/4

We are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington, Northumberland. A section of the road is closed in both directions between Moor Farm Roundabout to Laverock Hall Road. This is expected to remain in place for some time. 1/2

A section of the A1 between Stannington and Blagdon has been closed in both directions, and this closure is expected to remain in place for some time. Drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible, and to follow the diversions in place [4/5]
