Training showers and storms produced streaks of 2-4 inches of rainfall in Central and SE #KYwx earlier this week. That rainfall was beneficial to ongoing drought, but it left streaks of wetter ground and caused flooding. Additional heavy rainfall is in the forecast Sunday/Monday.
An NWS Jackson, KY graphic titled "Recent Rainfall Observations" for June 17th to June 19th, 2026, highlights past precipitation and upcoming heavy rain risks. Text on the left notes that training showers and storms produced two to four inches of rain in central and southeastern Kentucky, benefiting the ongoing drought but leaving streaks of wetter ground. An embedded Kentucky Mesonet map from June 19th displays forty-eight-hour rainfall observations, showing localized totals between three and four and a half inches in central southeastern Kentucky counties. The right side of the graphic warns of additional heavy rain on Sunday, June 21st, and Monday, June 22nd. Two smaller outlook maps show a level two out of four slight risk for excessive rainfall across eastern Kentucky on both days. The graphic concludes that flash flooding is possible and prompts users to monitor for updates via @nwsjacksonky or weather.gov/jkl.
