When you #retire it rapidly becomes apparent that many people you thought were friends were merely acquaintances. You'll never see or hear from them again. The place where you work will forget you in a blink of an eye. Bear that in mind when you're expected to go above & beyond

Dear patients. Spare a thought for the stress imposed on secretarial & administration staff in #NHS who are having to rearrange/cancel things that they have already spent time organising for you (albeit in vain). #bekind #coronavirus It's not their fault, not anything personal

Yes. I had lots of acquaintances at work in my team and across specialties and other groups Equally there were some I wouldn't put 'water' on if they were on fire. I still communicate with a few but it's v. unequal with respect to effort. If not there would be nil.

Self referrals are not the solution. Retain, train, fund. Triage at primary care. Look at the rate limiting factors and solve them. Unified computer & medical records across NHS primary & secondary care. Unified 'mandatory training & occupational health' to avoid duplication

My wife and I (who both work in the same hospital) weren't allowed to sit down at the same table in the staff canteen cos of covid social distancing.

And @McDonaldsUK's happy meal is pretty much the only 'treat' you can offer a child who's bored of being at home & walking the same dog walk for outside exercise every day of 3 lockdowns for past year. No ball pit, play park, zoos, beach, @nationaltrust etc

and despite being pizza experts not actually change the order to a more appropriate topping themselves, but rather instruct you to ring back with a new order.

Had an interesting interaction with medical students today. Not a busy clinic. Got chatting. Asked them what interests they had outside of medicine. One of them replied that they'd never been asked that before. Are we remiss in not looking at colleagues as humans? #MedTwitter

I think some Trusts are setting up companies that take over portering/kitchen staff etc and in so doing the staff lose their NHS employment status. Good to see your Trust doing the opposite.

I was once sent home by a consultant for wearing Chino shorts and a short sleeve shirt during a heatwave. The hospital was also closed due to D&V outbreak. 'no no, definitely not' Said consultant was wearing a tweed suit & visibly dripping sweat from his forehead on ward round.

It is shocking. Children of that age often take things literally and also enjoy singing/music. There's no humanist option, and scant regard to other belief systems in primary schools as far as I see.
