    Some things in academia are zero-sum. But never ever allow yourself to see your peers as competitors. It will poison you and your career. Compete with yourself and celebrate your friends’ triumphs. Always.

    WHEN YOU SEE SOMEONE BEING A DICK OF ANY KIND, POINT TO THEM AND SAY "WE DON'T DO THAT HERE." That's it. No need to fight or flex. Just enforce the norm of NOT BEING A DICK. *Especially* if you are a higher status person in the room.
