The most exciting part of electrical and computer engineering to me was always the prospect of designing tools that adapt to us as we adapt to them. Some of this fascination is probably due to my background in neuro, anthro, and cybernetics, but mainly I’m fascinated by how this

I get the sense a lot of Americans have a cartoony, Hollywoodized understanding of what life under authoritarianism is like. They don’t get that most censorship is self-censorship; most people just go about their normal, daily lives not talking about the things they shouldn’t.

The CNN death-by-bulldozer apologia is even more disturbing when you realize the IDF killed American activist Rachel Corrie that way in 2003.

A few things to note. 1) faced with an unreasonable demand, @weatherchannel decided to declare a simple article of clothing held dear by an entire cultural community “offensive” and not fit for public display. This is a far more political act than the original ad.

The Weather Company and its consumer brand, The Weather Channel, are widely recognized for our integrity and the trust we have with the public. We deeply apologize to anyone we offended through the inadvertent selection of an image in our recent ad campaign. We certainly don’t

Why has the Gaza war spun colleges into chaos? Because campuses have weakened as actual communities, where people mingle, interact and get to know and trust each other. My latest column: cnn.com/2024/04/26/opi…

it’s amazing that 500,000 Israelis live illegally in the West Bank (720k w East Jerusalem), and the idea of relocating them to Israel in line with the law is considered impossible and verboten to discuss but forcibly moving 2 million Gazans to other countries? That’s a WSJ oped.

Hamas has proposed the population transfer that is required by law: the return of Palestinian refugees in Gaza to their homes and the return of illegal Israeli settlers in the West Bank to within ‘48. Israel has categorically rejected this, choosing to commit genocide instead

why do we keep doing superfluous rework instead of pushing the boundaries of knowledge this is from 1972 they chose a tactile standard because they understood you wouldn’t always be able to look at your controls and should be able to tell what you were doing without looking

A significant amount of safety research has existed since the 70s on Human Machine Interfaces proving exactly this. It's exhausting to watch money and effort wasted in a tech hype cycle to constantly undo and redo what we already know in safety engineering.
