This seems incredibly short-sighted and self-defeating by Israel. For these countries to plan a coordinated visit to the PA is significant. It signals to the PA, Palestinians, and also to Israel that there is a coalition willing to work together on a better way forward for all.

Iranian pre-coordination with Qatar is smart and suggests they are still interested in de-escalation. Absent further retaliation, Trump should take the win and urge Netanyahu to wrap up the military operations ASAP so all can move to end the war through negotiations.

Israel's interest in advancing diplomatic channels withe new Syrian regime is a positive development. I hope the Trump administration welcomes the opportunity to facilitate these discussions and try to build a more constructive relationship between Israel & Syria. 1/

This is an important channel to maintain and grow. To reach full "peace" or normalization will take time, but any chance for Israel & Syria to build dip. relations - even if just re security for now -- will be useful to advancing long-term stability and security for both.

Both Israel and the US should be applauding such an initiative. This is the type of support needed if ever there is to be support for PA reform so it can govern effectively & if ever Israel is to be further integrated diplomatically & economically into the region.

The Trump administration is imploring Israel to take a beat in Syria and stop inflaming the situation through use of force - and they are right to do so. Israel should back off this front and focus on defending itself where appropriate, but within its own territory. 1/

An insightful account of the defense of Israel against Iran one year ago today from @DanielBShapiro. This also reflects the importance of a strong US-Israel security relationship, the US moving Israel to the CENTCOM area of responsibility, and expanding regional integration.

One year ago tonight, my team and I spent the night working in the Pentagon as our @CENTCOM colleagues, the @IDF, and allied militaries conducted a stunning defense of Israel against an unprecedented direct Iranian attack.

I applaud news of a ceasefire between the US and Houthis, but am skeptical that this will lead to lasting change or much more sense of stability and security in the region. That it doesn't account for Houthi attacks on Israel is notable. A 🧵 -- axios.com/2025/05/06/hou…

The scale of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is devastating. There is a moral imperative to do more, urgently, to alleviate the human suffering. And it is long past time time for a ceasefire & hostage deal, followed by an end to the war. Full statement from @IsraelPolicy4m --

Useful 🧵on why de-escalation is going to be tough before Israel feels it has achieved it's military aims in Iran & what may be needed to get there, especially if the US isn't going to join the fight.

Quick 🧵 on where we are right now. Calls for de-escalation (a reflex for diplomats) are going to fall on deaf ears. Israel chose a war; Israel and Iran are on an escalatory path. If anything can push them off that path it will probably be military constraints, not diplomacy.
