In high school, you get 155 hours on Hitler, 3 minutes on Stalin, and nothing on Pol Pot. Nothing on Mao. Barely a mention of Fidel Castro. It's striking that we don’t learn about Mao or Pol Pot—despite the scale of their crimes. Mao killed more people than any dictator in

Broadly, men's self-help tells men they suck and that if they work hard maybe they can suck less. Women’s self-help tells the women they are already amazing and the problem is they (and others) just haven't accepted it.

If the anti-drinking and driving movement had handed out free beers, destigmatized impaired driving, and created spaces to do it without stigma, they would have successfully reduced drunk driving. Sadly they instead went with using stigma + judgment and look what happened.

Bill Maher says something completely inoffensive, that McDonald's is delicious, and his panel acts as if he has just dropped a bombshell piece of information. Part of assimilation into upper middle class norms is to pretend fast food isn't delicious.

The most unrealistic part of Barbie is when they get to the Venice beach boardwalk in LA and there are no homeless, no junkies, no vandals. Just guys that look like frat boys from USC. Barbie then says she feels fear because of these boys. Wonder how she'd feel in the real LA.
