If fuel is available for 1.64 pounds in UK, it should cost around Rs 50 in India in PPP or purchasing power parity terms. For comparing prices across countries PPP is the metrix used, not direct conversion using exchange rates.

After speaking to farmers in several states, experts and industry insiders, my sense is that a #wheat crisis is imminent for India in the next 4-5 months, or earlier

A farmer from Maharashtra takes his anger out on unsold pomegranates. No buyer in mandis even for Rs 10 a kg. Ahmednagar. P. S. Please don't ask why he isn't selling it in a cart. In an area where every other farmer harvests the same crop, that's not an option

One reason camels are disappearing is due to a 2015 Rajasthan law banning slaughter, trade and transport, which hurt the economics of livestock rearing. Imposing religious-vegetarian morals on a pastoralist community!

India lost 80% of camels since early 1990s, and it may end up translocating camels, in a decade or so, like the cheetah! That would be a great loss, because camels are an insurance against #ClimateCrisis and its milk is a #superfood @livemint Long Story livemint.com/industry/camel…

Before serving your child a glass of 'healthy' fruit juice pls read the label behind. 37 teaspoons of #sugar in one litre. A 200 ml serving contains more sugar than what a child is supposed to have in a day! And that glass of juice isnt the only thing your child is having

Journalist: How much are you spending on the Krishi Unnati Mela? Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh: Depends on how much journalists eat at the event. (Press briefing, Krishi Bhavan, Delhi, 14 March 2018) We have the recording.

India cuts short its aspirations to feed the world. Bans #export of #wheat to ensure food security. What a u-turn and loss of face. Also, reflects poorly on its crop intelligence capabilities... Wanted to be a reliable global supplier but didn't know crop size was sharply lower!

Putting this🧵out to clear some misconceptions on #farmerprotest2024 and its demand for a legal backing to #MSP. Will it bankrupt the exchequer? Do only rich farmers benefit from MSP? Will it drive away private buyers? Illustration: Where the Indian Farmer stands (aside)… from

A grim data point: Suicides by daily wage earners, undoubtedly the poorest in India, nearly doubled between 2014 and 2018. From 15,735 to 30,127. Suicides by daily wagers tops all professional groups, be it farmers or housewives. Source: Latest NCRB reports

So I had a chat with a former #naturalfarming fellow from Andhra, KV Homendra, and he sent me this photo of a cauliflower weighing 3kg, grown without any chemical inputs. And look at those roots!
