I love California, but I've had mounting issues with the state since long before I moved out of L.A. I start my airing of grievances here with the voters.
Occasionally I’ll hear a word aloud for the first time, having read it a hundred times in my life and pronouncing it wrong in my head all the while. Today it was “viscount”.
There’s a young guy who works the front desk at my gym and when I scan my membership code to get in he always says “Thank you. Have a great workout” or some variation on that. And it’s not robotic. Totally genuine. It’s notable because everyone else who works the front desk is
Unfortunate situation, but I’m not too mad at that lady. She had the dog leashed and was obviously seriously dazed after the first face plant but still tried to get up and help before face planting again. Can’t ask for much more of an effort.
We’re going to need to allow some room for a lot of young people to snap out of it in the coming years. Some punishment is deserved here, but a vindictive pile-on may only add to their sense of alienation and oppression. A bit of grace could go a long way.
