Israel: We say with caution, the magic has started
Note blue lines, of 60+ years old (first to vaccinate), in the past 2 weeks:
~35% drop in cases
~30% drop in hospitalizations
~20% drop in critically ill
Stronger than in younger people & not seen in previous lockdown

- Israel: Fully open economy, R still declining, now 0.62 40 days after exiting lockdown From the peak of mid-January: 85% fewer daily deaths 72% fewer daily critically ill 86% fewer daily cases 40 days after exiting the previous October lockdown, R was already at 1.15

- Meanwhile in Israel: Continuing to crush the curve despite a nearly fully open economy From the peak of mid-January: 96% fewer cases 90% fewer new daily critically ill 85% fewer deaths Daily cases (weekly avg) now at 327, hasn't been this low since June 2020
- Israel: Continuing to crush the curve The economy is nearly fully open R continues to decline, now at its lowest ever: 0.55 This corresponds to a 65% weekly decline in daily cases
- Israel: 1.8 million vaccinated (~21% pop.) ~72% of all 60+ years old ~80% of all 70+ years old This week we expect to see the effect of the vaccines, by a drop in the relative number of 60+ years old out of the critically ill patients. Our projection is the blue dashed line
- Israel presents: How vaccines beat COVID-19 (for now) Since mid-Jan peak: 99% fewer cases (now ~5 daily cases per million) 98% fewer critically ill (now ~0.4 daily per million) 98% fewer deaths (now ~0.2 daily per million) Life is back to normal, very few restrictions remain
- Israel: What went wrong? How did we come to lead the COVID-19 cases chart? What caused the 2nd wave, why was it so bad, and is the lockdown working? A thread on Israel, the first country to impose a second lockdown, with lots of (don’t do) lessons to teach the world @EricTopol
- Israel: Continuing to crush COVID-19 Since the mid-Jan. peak: 98% fewer cases (now 116 per day) 97% fewer critically ill (now 6 per day) 99% fewer deaths (now 2 per day) Masks outdoors no longer required, and remaining restrictions can and should probably be lifted
- איך מסבירים לקולגה בארה"ב שמספר שקבעו לו תור לחיסון לעוד 4 חודשים, שאצלנו 2.25 מיליון לא מחוסנים יכלו לקבוע תור מיידי אם רק היו רוצים?
- Israel: For the first time in the pandemic, there were fewer COVID-19 hospitalizations this week in the 60 y/o and older age group than in the 60 y/o and younger age group The 60 y/o and older were first to vaccinate and 91% of them have been infected or vaccinated to date
- Israel: Further drop in R, now to 0.68, representing a 50% weekly decline in cases
