To add to this, several African languages including Yoruba aren’t gendered, there’s are no “he” or “she” conjugations. Only elder or younger and singular or plural. Further adds to the thought that separating society, languages etc by gender is a largely western concept!

This thread was inspired, in part, by @meghamohan and @LivvyLepoids' fantastic video about young people from Native American, Aboriginal and Indian communities where gender identity is more fluid. Watch it, if you haven't already bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-…

Meghan said the first thing she did when she found out she was 43% Nigerian, after taking a genealogy test, was phone her mum. Here’s a snippet of her speaking about being of Nigerian heritage:

I’ve been seeing a lot of comments for my impartial reporting especially amongst bias British coverage at the moment. I wasn’t clear what they were talking about so thought I’d scour UK commentary - now I see, and I am shocked… “dodgy Nigeria”?…

Prince Harry and Meghan at the Nigerian Armed Forces' Officers Mess in Abuja on the second of their three-day visit to Nigeria. They watched, and the Duke participated, in a game of sitting volleyball with a team of athletes from a local organisation they support through Invictus

Later, around 4.15pm, Meghan arrived at a ‘Women in Leadership’ summit, where she was in a panel with Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization. It was hosted by Mo Abudu, the media entrepreneur.

The couple then attended a reception hosted by the military’s Chief of Defence Staff (who is behind their visit to the country). Here they are standing while the Nigerian anthem is being played.

I want to share how I couldn’t have brought all this coverage to you without my amazing team: producer @KylaHerrmannsen cameramen @ayombello - we worked 60 hours over the past 3 days - worked hard to get access to all their public engagements - the only foreign media to do so.

    1. Josh and Kaz are CLEARLY a better match. 2. There was no way for him to give Georgia the heads up - which he probably would've been decent enough to do. 3. They were together for DAYS, not even months. 4. It's a game show to find your BEST match! 🤷🏾‍♀️ #LoveIsland

Stumbled upon a protest near Computer Village. A couple of people are heated - shouting at the armed police - who are standing guard. Military have been brought in. #EndBadGovernace ##EndBadGovernaceInNigeria #Tinubumustgo

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala spoke about how she got her role as DG. She said she told the interviewers it wasn’t about her being African or a woman but about choosing the best person for the job. The conversation then turned into women supporting other women in all sorts of spaces.

5 TV lives, 2 TV reports, 1 radio report, 2 long-read articles and more - and that was just Friday! I’ll post some tomorrow, once I get decent WiFi! For now, I hope we’ve kept you well informed of Harry & Meghan’s 1st private visit to Nigeria 🇳🇬 Thank you for the kind comments.
