STRIKE GERMANY is a call for international cultural workers to strike from German cultural institutions. It is a call to refuse German cultural institutions' use of McCarthyist policies that suppress freedom of expression, specifically expressions of solidarity with Palestine 1/x

This is the very first edition of the Die Schande: a collection of texts which reflect on the current repressive political climate in Germany. Available in Berlin now. Fuck Germany, Strike Germany

Joining several artists who have withdrawn their work from transmediale 2024 in support of STRIKE GERMANY, Nadim Choufi withdraws from his position as film curator for the upcoming festival. Thank you! Read his statement below 🇵🇸
I am withdrawing from my position as the film curator of transmediale 2024.

I cannot be part of a German cultural institution that does not explicitly oppose and register dissent to Germany's unconditional support of Israel and its ongoing genocidal war on Gaza.
The genocide reminds us that language is weaponized to create suitable frames for oppression. Dehumanizing speeches by Israeli officials are used to justify the mass killing and starving of Palestinians. It becomes clear that when state-funded German cultural institutions do not take a public stand against the German government's support of these crimes, they become complicit in the destruction of Palestinian lives and in the long-term structural repression of pro-Palestinian voices in Germany even if these institutions momentarily make space for them.
My withdrawal is in solidarity with all the artists who have withdrawn from transmediale and is aligned with the cultural workers who are striking German institutions.

End the occupation. Free Palestine

This is a temporary victory, but the Berlin-specific IHRA-clause is merely a symptom of a national issue. The 2017 adoption of IHRA as a federal guideline stands, regardless of this news. We call for a nation-wide rejection of IHRA. The call to STRIKE GERMANY remains unchanged!

Breaking: Berlin drops the IHRA clause - which limits criticism of Israel -from cultural funding applications after sustained protest from artists "I have to take seriously the legal and critical voices that saw the clause as a restriction on artistic freedom" Senator @ChialoJoe

Haven for Artists in Beirut joins the call to STRIKE GERMANY and makes the principled decision to reject a grant by the @rosaluxglobal who have time and time again betrayed the leftist principles they supposedly stand for.

Unfortunately, reasons to join the call keep increasing with every day. Shameful and downright embarrassing position of @maxplanckpress in line with Germany’s intellectual provicialism. Full solidarity with @anthroprofhage. Join STRIKE GERMANY today! strikegermany.org

STRIKE GERMANY because Germany systemically refuses to acknowledge the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. For years, this has manifested as the silencing of Palestinians and those in solidarity with their struggle and in arms sales to Israel and its allies.
