President Trump firing the BLS commissioner is appalling and, honestly, would be an impeachable offense in a better world.

Vote Biden. The other guy is an affront to everything the nation stands for. You know that's true. Whatever you think the costs of electing a Democrat are, they pale in comparison to the alternative. You know that's true. It's not close. Be good.

Jeff, this is deeply unfair. Your email came to me came in at 8:52am this morning. The piece went live at 9:00am. Thinking you were still writing something in good faith, I told you at 12:26pm I would call you later today. I expect an apology.

That one time Larry Bird decided to play left-handed against the Blazers because, and this is an actual quote, “I’m saving my right hand for the Lakers.” 47 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists. Two nights later, the Celtics beat the Lakers at the Forum.

Why stop with lunch when we have breakfast and dinner too? Why stop with kids? Why stop with food?

Here's a crazy radical idea: Just. Give. Kids. Free. Lunch. No income verification, no paperwork, no payment systems, no "lunch debt." Just feed every kid in public school. Why isn't every Democrat advocating for it nationwide? My piece: washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/…

Hoo boy, this is why expertise is undervalued. He's comparing nominal bread prices to inflation-adjusted income. That's a giant mistake, but it didn't stop him from getting almost 200K likes. /1

My crankiness at the unwillingness of many vaccinated people to move back toward pre-COVID life is beginning to rival my crankiness at people who weren't careful before the vaccine. If we're still doing outdoor ceremonies *masked* by July, I will probably have to be hauled away.

It's time for us to admit it's endemic. Wordle posting is not going away, and we need to adjust our lives accordingly.

Crazy theory: if fertility has dropped in places as diverse as Denmark & US, it probably has less to do with capitalism, inequality, & policy and more to do w/ declining interest in having 3 kids and more interest (especially among women) in doing things other than childrearing

A hidden story of the pandemic is how it exposed that a lot of people are unwilling to acknowledge trade-offs that usually go unrecognized. Why aren't all speed limits 15 mph?
