San Jose minimum wage: $15 $31,200 per year based on a 40hr week $2,600 a month Average one bedroom apartment: $2,000 Qualifications: Must earn 3x monthly rent amount ($6,000) You’d have to make $34/hr to meet the minimum qualifications That’s it. That’s the whole tweet.

To the people saying, “just get two jobs”: What kind of life is that? Let me guess, your next suggestion is, “If you don’t like it, just leave!”. It’s not exactly easy to just up and leave the place you grew up. I have roots here.

To think that we should say, “I’ll just have two jobs and six roommates. It’s what I gotta do to live here!” is ridiculous. This kind of market and that lifestyle should not be normalized. People who grew up here belong here and should not be pushed out by rich transplants.

No music videos, no social media, no manager, recorded our album live, announced releases the day of, made our own merch, never did a tour over 10 days long, and never played outside of the US. This might be flexing, but I don’t care. I’m hella proud of what we did.

It’s not even the wages that are the problem. It’s housing. You have people coming here with CASH buying up homes, driving up the prices, causing bidding wars and then renting those houses out to the lower and middle class.

Even if I could qualify for a home, I would almost certainly get outbid by a cash buyer. The rich are treating San Jose like a casino where they can bet their money and further benefit themselves financially.

When Gulch tours again and we’re in your city, I want you to point out anyone who is at the show who has flipped Gulch merch for a ton of money and we will beat their ass in the street.

Okay two more things since people won’t stop attacking me. 1) I calculated the wages like this. $15/hr x 40hr/week x 4.3 weeks in a month = $2,580 (rounded up to $2,600). I did not factor in tax 2) I do not work a minimum wage job. I run a screen printing shop.
