I first applied for an affordable housing voucher in 1993. I finally got a call back in 2004 to tell me my son who just graduated high school couldn’t be on my lease. Today in 2022 I finally got a letter telling me I made it to the top of the waiting list. I have no words.

29 years. I have no words for how this system continues to fail our communities and those in need of stable, AFFORDABLE housing. In those 29 years the housing crisis in Chicago has only gotten worse.

This is my lived experience this is what keeps me in this fight. NO ONE should have to wait 29 years to get what should be a basic right in the richest country in the world.

Because this my experience, I don’t take campaign contributions from private developers. I want to be accountable to my community period. Here’s one way you can support our work in Chicago:

Protect all Black women means protect all Black women. Period. The Mayor's office does not get to try and dismiss the case of Anjanette Young and then carry on business as usual.

The Mayor is my coworker NOT my boss. And as long as I'm in city council, I'm going to use my seat and my platform to speak up for Black women.

I and 11 other parents and organizers did not go on a 34 day hunger strike to save Dyett High School just for the man @RahmEmanuel who tried to close a majority Black neighborhood school to be appointed as an ambassador.

This city is never going to move forward unless our elected officials actually work together with the best interests of our communities at heart.

This was not about the appointment. This is about the Mayor’s corporate counsel not working for the people and trying to deny what is due to Anjanette Young after the injustices she faced at the hands of CPD.

Let’s be clear the community started this conversation and they should have the final say over civilian control of the police. They only thing the Mayor can take credit for is delaying this process while CPD brutalizes our people. 🧵

Lightfoot says she will put together her own proposal for civilian police review. It's something that "I started the conversation about in this city five years ago." Won't say how her proposal will differ from GAPA and CPAC proposal to give civilian panel final say on policy.

This #MLKDay I’m thinking about the Black and brown youth of Chicago. These young people have constantly been a force of change and love. Y’all can talk about honoring Dr. King’s legacy all you want, but the young people of this city LIVE his legacy. Peace and blessings ❤️

We knew back in April that the Mayor’s office shouldn’t be trusted to actually get these resources to our communities. We have to do better for our people.

BREAKING NEWS: A departmental breakdown shared with aldermen last week shows that, of the $403 million in discretionary federal funds provided to the city COVID-19 direct response, more than $280 million (!!!) went to the Chicago Police Department. #CARESNotCops #RightToRecovery

Last time I checked I’m still a member of the Black caucus. Rahm Emanuel (@RahmEmanuel) still closed schools in Black and brown neighborhoods, closed public mental health clinics and covered up the murder of a child. He does not have my support.

Emanuel points to the support of the Aldermanic Black Caucus.
