Juneteenth marks the day the last enslaved people in Texas learned they were free — June 19, 1865. Thanks in large part to Fort Worth's Ms. Opal Lee, the "grandmother of Juneteenth," it is now a federal holiday honoring freedom and the promise of liberty and justice for all.
