You can skip the trial and pay for your selected plan right after signing up, and still receive your first month free.
Subscriptions are billed annually. 3-year discounted plans are billed every 3 years.
How do team accounts work?
Start with a Main Account which acts as the admin and billing hub, and add a subaccount for each team member. Each account can be on a different plan, so you only pay for the storage each person needs. Scale up and adjust any time.
How do we set up addresses like info@ or support@?
You can create unlimited aliases on your own domain that deliver to any account, or use a low-cost Micro Subaccount as a shared inbox.
How do we move from Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?
Update your domain’s DNS records to point to Runbox, then use the IMAP Import tool to copy your existing mail without deleting anything from the old account. Runbox Support can do the migration for you for a fee.
Do we have to transfer our domain to Runbox?
No. You can keep it with your current registrar and update the DNS settings, or transfer it to Runbox and manage everything in one place
Where is our data stored, and is it GDPR compliant?
All email is stored on our own servers in Norway. Norway applies GDPR through the EEA Agreement, and the Norwegian Data Protection Authority enforces it.
Is our email end-to-end encrypted?
Connections are encrypted with TLS, and stored data is protected by full-disk encryption. For end-to-end encryption you can use PGP or S/MIME, which you manage yourself.
Who can access our company’s email?
Runbox policy is to require a valid Norwegian court order before disclosing any customer data — and that applies to everyone, including Norwegian and foreign authorities. Because Runbox is a Norwegian company that owns its own servers in Oslo and uses no U.S.-controlled infrastructure, the U.S. CLOUD Act has no reach: it does not apply to data stored with Runbox. Foreign requests must go through Norway’s legal system, where GDPR (including Article 48, which restricts transfers of personal data to non-EU authorities) and Norwegian privacy law set a high bar. Every request Runbox receives is documented in our public Transparency Report.
Does it work with Outlook, Apple Mail and phones?
Yes. Runbox uses standard IMAP, POP and SMTP, so it works with any email client. Calendars and contacts sync over CalDAV and CardDAV.
What happens to our domain and email if we cancel?
Your domain stays yours — you can keep it registered with Runbox or move it anywhere. Account data is retained for a period after closure as required by Norwegian bookkeeping law, and you can request deletion of your data at any time.
