If you decide to follow me because I like OpenBSD or write tips about vi, be warned:

I believe:
-CoCs are good
-LGBTQA folks are awesome and deserve rights just like any of us
-Women and minorities have been screwed in tech and we need to fix it
-Nazis deserve punching
-As a white dude, if you/I get called out on something we did, the best response is to apologize and stop talking
-Meritocracies aren't

If you take issue with any of these statements, this place is not for you.

Stopping git naming the first branch "master":

reducto$ git config --global init.templateDir ~/.config/git/template
reducto$ mkdir -p ~/.config/git/template
reducto$ echo "ref: refs/heads/main" > ~/.config/git/template/HEAD
reducto$ mkdir newRepo
reducto$ cd newRepo/
reducto$ git init
Reinitialized existing Git repository in /home/kurt/newRepo/.git/
reducto$ git status
On branch main

vi tips - Exiting vi

First, just hit the Escape key for good measure before any of these. If you are in an insert mode it will exit it, and if you're not it doesn't hurt (except for maybe making a beep).

:q
-Quit, unless I changed the file

:q!
- Quit. Now. Discard any changes.

:x
-Write the file if it changed, and then quit

ZZ
-Write the file if it changed, and then quit

:wq
-Write the file and then quit

(Feels wrong to capitalize vi, but trying to help screen readers)

Sadly Paranoia increasingly looks more like a serious future RPG than the comedy it was supposed to be.

I feel like I'm super close to getting current versions of minecraft running. I've got LWJGL 3.4.1 building. It just isn't building all the native .jar files I want it to.

I thought I understood how it determines which bindings to do that for.

Turns out, I do not.

So I'm lost in a maze of XML files that all look alike.

:flan_despair:

Now that I can run Minecraft 1.21.11 on OpenBSD and have access to the auto crafter (which is just called a crafter), I decided I should have my pumpking and melon farm feed the melon slices into a crafter to make melons and then feed both whole melons and pumpkins into the base water stream into the sorting system.

Except The feed from the farm is 1 level too low to do it as cleanly as I'd like. (It's easy to move things down or to the side in minecraft, less so for up. Doable, but not as easy).

Now my brain has latched onto the ridiculous idea of demolishing tha automatic farm and rebuilding it so it's higher up.

Kurt: I sleep with 3 fans.
Kurt: Only because I don't have more
Kurt: There's even a fan in my laptop

I've gotten LWJGL 3.3.3 and 3.3.4 working on OpenBSD. I've put 3.3.3 into the ports tree since that version will allow using the Sodium performance mod with 1.21.11. 3.3.4 doesn't really gain us anything though. Minecraft 26.1 wants 3.4.1.

I'm still chugging along though.

Oh yeah. I got LWJGL 3.3.2 working properly on OpenBSD. Now I can run versions of minecraft up through 1.21.11. VICTORY! :flan_strong::flan_hacker:

Figured out why I had been stuck getting LWJGL 3.3.2 working on OpenBSD. Fixed that stuck part.

Now I'm stuck again. :flan_tired:

The corpus almost certainly includes all the Bastard Operator From Hell.

Just remember that amongst all the training data that all the LLMs have been fed, is all the work of Friend Computer from the Paranoia RPG.

Sleep well.

So sparc64 is officially a base-clang architecture now. The first bulk as such is just under 2 hours in.

If you ask "base-clang? What?" - OpenBSD has two types of architectures. Those where cc is the old gcc, and those where cc is clang. After a lot of work by kirill@, sparc64 has switched to using clang by default.
