For years, I wrote about my work on distributed systems: smaller grids, virtual grids, microgrids and battery-powered grids, from the lens of “DER” language. I don’t need that language anymore. I am in the business of electron arbitrage across space and time. Two of my advised

The software deficit in @pjminterconnect is so real, holy #*$* PJM has an automated real-time market engine, but the forward-looking operating layer above it still depends materially on dispatcher judgment and discrete use cases. Manual processes seem to be running grid

Yes and also, the job is to make utilities boring again. Moving compute around the lack of wires with technology stacks is a business that is agnostic to a lot of that gatekeeping. You yourself have supported one of the most important advancements in arbitrage in the absence of

Agreed 💯 in concept. In implementation, though, I struggle w/gatekeeping of physical infrastructure as a barrier. CRE is the closest to my "how can we do what Uber did to transportation" question, but utilities are adamant about their franchise rights & well funded to fight.

Another way of saying that is that monopolies are too slow and we can't wait for them so we can do what Travis wants to do or we can do what all the tech companies I invest in, want to do. And those are not mutually exclusive. Arbitrage doesn't care about the grid rules or the

I've come to a similar realization; last weekend at the IRLE distribution system workshop I argued that tensions with DERs & data centers were at the core the same problem: coordination. Another way of saying what you said.

Ah, common sense. Tell that to NESO's grid queue. 700GW waiting, yet data centres get the fast lane. Some citizenship.
