Our first community update covers what we've been building since July, starting with rotortree: the Merkle tree behind our shielded pools. We've now released it for others to use, and it's about 450x faster than the library most of the ecosystem runs on.

Each note gets hashed into an append-only Merkle tree.
Spending a note means proving it is in that tree.
The tree is the ledger. Whatever it can hold is the ceiling on what a private
confidential systems for institutional ethereum require precision.
it is not enough to “add privacy.” the system has to define visibility, disclosure, permissions, auditability, failure modes, and how financial workflows actually operate across infrastructure.

confidential systems for institutions don't survive as a demo. a circuit that verifies is one milestone, getting it wired into settlement rails nobody built for it is a separate one.
