Bc most grand math problems are loosely linked to the real-world, being first is mainly a zero-sum prestige-competition. Solving physics defines new degrees of freedom which enable breakthrough tech, taking innovation into the world & unlocking positive-sum, abundant discovery.

If we discover an alien species on another planet that could, in principle, reach their own singularity, and assuming we can reach them - should we intervene to prevent their singularity? Should we intervene to steer it? What are the limits of nonintervention policies here?
