I am recruiting PhD students to join my research group! If you're interested in systems or security (including intersections with cryptography, datacenters, AI, etc.), then please apply to UCLA Computer Science (@UCLAComSci) and list me on your application as a potential advisor.

I'm on a plane, and my flight is delayed for over 2 hours. Why? First, they had to replace a seat belt. But their computer didn't recognize the new part number, so they have to replace the entire seat before the plane is allowed to move. The computer made things less efficient...

It’s an honor to have been recognized as a Runner-Up for the ⁦@TheOfficialACM⁩ SIGSAC Doctoral Dissertation Award at CCS 2024 (⁦@acm_ccs⁩)! I’d like to thank my nominator and letter writers for this award, and my advisors, mentors, and collaborators during my PhD.

This was a fun project! Developing the reading list as senior grad students, we got to re-read classic systems papers with a fresh perspective. And I'm glad that junior grad students at @Berkeley_EECS now have a more up-to-date reading list introducing them to systems research.

Proud of what we came up with. The new Berkeley OS prelim balances breadth with depth by connecting key modern advances to ideas introduced in older papers. Syllabus: ucbosprelim.samkumar.org
