@feld This is about your article https://blog.feld.me/posts/2026/02/using-new-bridges-freebsd-15/ which scared some people with the implied inability to put IP addresses on bridge interfaces (instead of on the member interfaces).
@feld The new FreeBSD 15+ bridge driver will still allow you to put IP addresses on the bridge itself and on VLAN interfaces created on top of the bridge e.g. bridge0.1. There is and never has been a need to use an epair for non-vnet jails.
@cks: If you want hear something truly cursed as progress bar I can offer this gem: a one line high VT100 scroll region that's updated with a new line every 100ms.
I have disabled every fucking piece of AI bullshit I can find from Firefox and DESPITE THAT today I got ambushed by a new ASK AN AI CHATBOT line in a fucking image context menu
jesus FUCKING CHRIST @mozilla
STOP.

PUSHING.

SHIT.

US.
(I know the account's abandoned. Don't care. Best I've got. Fucking Mozilla.)
Companies spend a lot of money convincing us to trust them.
We^W Countries other than the US have government bodies regulating drug companies, because we can't trust them.
Tech spends the same "trust me" money, but has no regulatory oversight.
Can't blame folks outside tech for not understanding the risks. Blame the companies. Spread the story that the companies can't be trusted and that the cloud is a lie.
And in the name of Dog, back up your digital life on media you control!
While cleaning a storage room, our staff found this tape containing #UNIX v4 from Bell Labs, circa 1973
Apparently no other complete copies are known to exist: https://gunkies.org/wiki/UNIX_Fourth_Edition
We have arranged to deliver it to the Computer History Museum
Today Google bricked my Chromebook by force-installing a hidden extension that trains a machine vision model on the contents of my screen without my consent, making the whole machine too hot to touch, and I am once again begging someone, anyone, to remove Chrome from Google by any means necessary.
@dvl: I finally documented why and how to run your own local FreeBSD package cache with Varnish: https://blog.rlwinm.de/why-and-how-to-run-your-own-freebsd-package-cache-3wbg
#bhyve process supervision update: @crest , @antranigv, and I have been working on a user-friendly runit-based proof of concept that I have front-ended with an RC script. The fundamentals look good short of a restart issue that is hopefully attributed to me holding it wrong.
Followers of the bhyve Production User calls will know what this refers to. We've been discussing it since 2021... Something something New Year's Resolutions or something.
Which reminds me ...
1. I have @bsdcan to thank for my introduction to bhyve and ...
2. We all need to come together to keep BSDCan ticket prices low with sponsorships.
Please give what you can (I've given $500 out of aforementioned appreciation) and please explain the value of the event to your employer.
You can use funding@bsdcan.org (PayPal) in a pinch and reach out about other options.
Thank you!

@overhacked @crest @dexter I don't know enough about net graph to tell you how much of the if_bridge functionality it implements, but I am pretty confident that it'll be much slower than the current if_bridge. Netgraph is currently going to contend on its internal locks. There's an ongoing GSOC project to improve that (https://wiki.freebsd.org/SummerOfCode2023Projects/LocklessSynchronizationBetweenNodesInNetgraph), but I don't know the state of it.
Any... #WireGuard on #FreeBSD users out there? @crest has some magic to share:
