Kinda back from my four month social media break. Still keeping it at arms length for now while I sort through ${BrainThings}. But hi. 👋
(On social media break while travelling, but this is my ongoing Vietnam 2026 blog post series if anyone is interested. Trying to chill but also so much to see/do hah).
Married! (Only took us… 12 years?!) 🎉
Update: thank you everyone! ♡ We’re off to Vietnam again to celebrate. Catch you all later.
@fshinneman @AkaSci Who could forget the standard calculator disclaimer, "Calculators are based on AI and can make mistakes. Please verify all output."
Need to recycle some hazardous stuff and ewaste. Hey look, the council has a community recycling site!
> The CRC is a drive-through facility only.
I… huh? So if you’re one of the millions of Australians who don’t drive… off to landfill? What an unserious scheme.

Regrettably, I don't think the executives who reorganized their entire companies around wildly oversubsidized code generators at the expense of things like "understanding our own systems" "meeting customer's needs" are going to be the people who end up struggling financially because of their catastrophically shortsighted incompetence.
Pardon the French, but fuck I love #NetBSD.
Had a long train ride home, so SSH’d into my Shonen Jump box at home, then into my old Solaris box, then my Pentium 1. It all still works, and it’s wonderful. Wanted to try something, built a little chroot, done. It’s all so predictable and consistent and wonderful.
And… increasingly rare.

* My old Sun box. Which at some point ran Solaris/SunOS. You know what I mean.
@oxy That's good to know! Love the Noctua browns in my rigs.
When I eventually move off AM4 and LGA1151 I might need to ping them about mounting kits.
@randomgeek Oh nice, I'll give it a try.
@decryption I felt that post in my bones. :/
Am I the only one who finds it super hard to read LLM generated text? Every time someone sends me an email or documentation which was obviously generated by LLMs I need to read it 3-5 times to somehow get the actual information out of it from all of the unnecessary blah blah. To some degree I don't get it. Just writing out the few sentences by hand should not take that much time and would safe a lot of time on the other side...
@oxy YES, THIS! I'm still so sad that (an albeit broken) LTO3 machine I bought on eBay was lost in the post. Was basically going to just be a prop, but would have been so fun to be in a machine like this.
