Tan presents, encourages undergraduate research through SURF program
September 30, 2026Senior CS major Xiao Tan had quite an eventful summer. Through UNC’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program, Tan conducted research that was not only important to her but also led to publication at a national academic conference. Now, she’s encouraging others to pursue undergraduate research.

New Carolina Catalyst Fund prioritizes AI research
September 28, 2026 | The Daily Tar HeelThis new internal fund is intended to help faculty pursue high-risk, high-reward research projects. This program is open to all disciplines, but projects that use artificial intelligence methodologies, bring engineering design or translational thinking to bear on a scientific or scholarly challenge will receive special consideration. It is anticipated to support 10 -15 projects.

UNC CS presents 10 papers at ECCV 2026
September 22, 2026Researchers in the Department of Computer Science presented 10 papers at the 2026 European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV), one of the top conferences in computer vision. The papers came from the research groups of Mohit Bansal Gedas Bertasius, Tianlong Chen, Xiaoming Liu, Jason Ren, and Roni Sengupta.
