I made the mistake of having a big breakfast before sitting down to write and now I’m lethargic and rather want to take a nap.

I traveled for work this week, which was all nice and dandy. The trains were on time and pretty empty, taking them during the less busy hours makes quite a big difference.
The hotel was a bit special – the vibe was less “person traveling for business” and more “married man vacationing with his girlfriend.”

I haven’t really made much progress with the media tracking part of my website. I wouldn’t really call it a burn-out but lately doing computer stuff besides just using software to do things isn’t really giving me much joy and rather feels tedious. (As we discussed in weeknotes prior to this one.)

Same week as every week, except yesterday I went to a small comedy show with my brother-in-law. It was okay, I guess – four comedians. One was good, one was very obviously at the very beginning of their career, one was okay-ish and one was an ex-cop who joked about bullying teenagers when he was in uniform because he didn’t like their music. Turns out, sometimes the C in ACAB can mean comedian.

Also I found a place where I can get banh-mi without having to travel so that’s something that I’ll try later on today.

Oh boy, running your own website(s) is tedious, isn’t it? I’m in the middle of moving stuff away from Digital Ocean. (We all know why.) I wanted to do that anyway but well, procrastination.
Object storage is especially annoying – of course there’s rclone and it does what it should but it doesn’t clone the visibility settings. Te-di-ous!
And then there’s my Thumbor instance. I vaguely remember spending a whole weekend trying to get it to work, it has been running for years and frankly, the idea of having to do this again fills me with dread.
Anyway – nothing that a coffee, Euro RX on a second screen and some patience can’t fix.

After last week’s sleep deprivation I decided that this week I’ll force myself to go to bed at nine every day. That didn’t exactly mean that I’d sleep at nine but I magically managed to read more than usual and still sleep earlier than usual. Who knew.
Alas, more sleep just means I’m less sleepy but it does not mean I’m less tired. How annoying.

A few things for the record (completely irrelevant, but who knows what 2036-Dominik will think when he reads them. Now-me is quite interested in what 2016-Dominik had to say.)

• On Teymur‘s recommendation I tried the “Spinat Maultaschen” and even though I would like to call them and yell at them for the grave grammatical error in their product name, they are very tasty indeed.
• I’m this close to finishing the media tracker functionality for my website so I can finally close down my Trakt account.
• I read The Glass Hotel in just a few evenings, thanks to the aforementioned bed time routine.
• There’s a new series of Taskmaster and the mood is a bit weird. Not good weird, but it’s still early days.
• For the first time in at least a decade or two I went to the Straßenfest street fair here in town. And I think that was enough of this kind of local merriment for the next decade as well.

I had plans for this weekend and I had to do some planning for future endeavours to do, instead I am paying the price for all the revenge bedtime procrastination I did this week. So knackered, good god.

The one thing I managed to do is to switch my “photo blog to fediverse” thing from Mastofeed to a direct integration. I decided to keep posting the photos to my Mastodon account instead of turning the page into an ActivityPub instance, mostly to keep things simple as I do that with my link blog already as well and it seems to work well. Both for me and for the people who follow me. For now. Who knows what ideas I’ll have in the future.

Just like everyone else in this part of the world, I wanted to see the eclipse last Wednesday. Given that my living room windows face directly toward the sun around the time of the eclipse, I decided to just do that from home. Alas there is a tree in the way and all I saw was a sunset.
Turns out it was still a good decision: the big viewing point was overrun with people and when everybody wanted to leave, a pensioner (allegedly) mixed up the pedals in his car and ploughed right into a group of pedestrians. I could see the emergency services work late into the night.

For some reason I decided to bring a cake, so this morning I did a bit of baking. I haven’t done this in a long time and I clearly did not prepare well – I forgot that my mixer is broken and I didn’t buy milk. So I had to go on a little mission to find milk (which is harder than it sounds unless you’ve been to “stores are closed on Sunday” countries) and then did all the mixing by hand with a whisk. Oh boy. But now the cake is in the oven and it already smells quite nice. (But Dominik, isn’t milk a staple that you always have at home? No. No, it isn’t. I hardly ever have milk at home these days.)

I started something on an impulse. I realised after a while that while it might be a great idea, it would be an even better idea as part of something already existing. Now I’m ignoring it altogether and for some reason started Captain of Industry again, which is really, really bad. It’s crack. I should delete it and sell my gaming PC.

Today I went up a (small) mountain and that was a very sweaty endeavour. And that was the week.

Another rather calm and warm week.
Workwise I’m currently working on a big task with a technology I haven’t used before, so this takes up a lot of my mental energy and struggling with all the weird little mistakes one does when not fully knowing something is surprisingly draining. I’m learning a lot, though, which is fun.
