Parphrasing some conversations/emotions on #Fedi the last few days, for clarity:

> "Ah, I see. Someone failed your arbitrary purity test, and now you are angry and want to hurt them with your words."

"No. I'm angry that greedy corporations have executed one PsyOp after another to make a morally clear issue murky and allow abuses to continue, and I will use what seems on the surface to be ridiculous-sounding exaggerated syllogisms and polarized statements to restore clarity to the fact that we are somehow debating just how much baby-shredding should be allowed in Open Source projects, for flip's sake.
I understand that the people who have made tragically obtuse and seemingly clueless statements in defense of the indefensible are also human beings who have mummys and daddys that love them very much, and I wish them no harm or ill.
This is not rancor, it is rectitude. Maybe look it up in the dictionary sometime."

Now I'm pondering the alternate reality where I didn't spill tea all over my beloved MacBook Air in 2019. I wonder how long I would've continued daily driving MacOS. The hardware would've been supported by Apple until 2021, but I wouldn't have been motivated to buy a new one at that point.

I guess I'm glad the events worked out the way they did.

I have a hard time relating too much to me-from-ten-years-ago that happily used Google Chrome, Google Drive, and typed all his notes in Microsoft Word. 😝

  • Loads #Fediverse notifications
  • @Tusky whimpers
  • Phone bursts into flames
  • Spacetime folds in on itself
  • I'm playing Pasur with Dave Bowman in the hotel room at the end of time
  • The unnerving space fetus is keeping score
  • Captain Picard's 42 palms are simultaneously placed on his forehead
  • The universe is singing its song to me:
"Oooolwayyyz look on the broight soide of loife....!"

@twizzay, I feel this toot was worthy of you.

As it is also his birthday, I cannot let it pass without also honoring his memory. He would have been 18 today. (Ok, that breaks my brain a little 😅)

To my dear #FloofSon Hobbes. My very own Puss in Boots. 😸💗

Ugh, flipping #Eero wifi router from hades is blocking archive.is / archive.today. What a piece of helltech.
And I can't even get the horrid app to install from Aurora store to control it now. XD

Ok, got it downloaded from APKMirror. Let's see if I can set it up to just give me a web interface, or at least allow archive.today.

Nerfherders. :P

Contributing code, money, or time to FOSS projects was never a prerequisite to being a part of its community.

Please stop calling it "entitlement" to make ethical objections about the way a FOSS project is being run.

Yes, I do understand that some people are just arseholes. That's still not ok. But neither is silencing dissent.

We can all do a lot better right now.

2004: The Linux Kernel team is using a non-free source code management service, and that's not really ok.

2026: The Linux kernel team is in favor of using non-free, non-ethical, planet-incinerating spicy matrix transformations to test and generate "FOSS," and somehow you're an ass for saying that's not ok.

Ummm...

Do y'all remember long distance telephone service "slamming" in the 1990s? Apparently you could get switched to a different long distance provider without knowing it. Companies would do it on their own, until there was some kind of law/regulations passed against it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_slamming

This morning, I got a text from my electricity utility saying that they got a request to cancel my service tomorrow.

Ummm, no?

Either someone flubbed my address when requesting service, or some power company is doing something shady.

As @joel would say, "evil stuff."

My provider assured me they will take care of it. Hopefully I won't start getting strange power bills and visits from some guy named "Guido." ;)

Just #FYI to my #FreeBSD peeps, I've updated my [cpugov] script to try to show cpu governor (power profile) status in FreeBSD (read-only).

P.S., it now handles #NetBSD as well. It doesn't do a whole lot more than just sysctl machdep.cpu for now, but it also tries to show the latest syslog messages from powerd as well as warn you if the powerd acadapter script isn't set up to change clock speed when the power state changes (which it doesn't by default).
If anyone has any info on how to access the actual CPU governor (and not just the clock speed) in NetBSD, let me know. ;)

Post your #NeverSlop tech stack!

I'm thinking...

(I haven't tried all of these yet)

Resources:

You know, you can disagree with someone (even be convinced they're utterly morally wrong) without going full scorched earth on their butt.

You know that's an option, right?

You can maintain a very strict moral/ethical code without treating people in a knee-jerk adversarial manner.

(And yes, I am the same guy that compared some of the anti-anti-AI talking points to tone policing. But I yet exhort you to remember the human. They're not worth less because you think they're wrong, even if you think their wrong stance on an important issue is causing harm.)

Be kind, #tooters. 💗

People who are trying to justify their reliance on the technofascist lying machine complaining about being "persecuted" by those who object to the use of such things on an ethical basis is... a bit rich.

Like, you're basically siding with fascism. You were expecting a wreath of flowers and a kiss on the cheek?

At the same time, it pains me to see the continuingly escalating "temperature" of dialogue on the fediverse on the subject.
Including this very tweet. 🤷‍♂️ 😔

Stay human, my #tooters.
Stay human(e).

P.S. I'm sad that it's literally impossible to discuss the potential good that could come about from this frankly impressive technology, because it's tied to so much evil by default. Could we have ethically-trained, efficient "AI" running on green energy that could be used for the actual betterment of humanity? We probably could. Am I willing to discuss that possibility? Heck no. Not while it's being used the way it's being used.
I'm not willing to discuss the way that killdozer could be converted into an honest, good construction machine as long is killdozer is a freaking killdozer.
