We'd rather you pick the right tool than switch and regret it. Kit is the better call when:

  • You grow mostly through the Kit Recommendations network or paid recommendations.
  • You want sponsorships through Kit's advertiser marketplace.

Why creators move off Kit

The jump from free to paid

Kit's free plan goes to 10,000 subscribers but has no automations or sequences. The first welcome sequence means Creator: $39 a month at 1,000 subscribers, $139 at 10,000.

Cold subscribers still count

Kit bills for confirmed subscribers even if they haven't opened in months. Unsubscribed and bounced ones don't count.

Commerce fees

Selling through Kit costs 3.5% plus 30 cents per sale.

Switching in an afternoon

Most people do this on a Sunday with a coffee. Here's the whole thing.

  1. Export a CSV from Kit. In Kit, open Subscribers, select everyone (or a segment), choose Export from the bulk actions, and grab the CSV link Kit emails you.
  2. Import it into SendFox. Open the import screen, choose Upload a file, pick a list and map the columns. Or skip the CSV and connect Kit directly from the same screen.

  3. Recreate your signup form. Pick a hosted link or paste one line of code on your site, and choose which list signups go to. Swap the old form on your site for the new one.

  4. Rebuild your welcome email and re-send it. Create an automation triggered when someone joins your list and paste in your welcome emails. Then use "Add contacts manually" to drop your imported list in, so everyone gets a friendly hello from your new sender instead of a surprise.

  5. Send your next newsletter from SendFox. Then cancel Kit once you've checked the first send landed.

SendFox vs Kit: quick answers

Is SendFox a good alternative to Kit?

Yes — if you send newsletters, SendFox is a simpler, far cheaper alternative to Kit (formerly ConvertKit). It is free up to 1,000 contacts, then $29 paid once covers 5,000 contacts and 300,000 total email sends. Kit bills per subscriber every month, and its price climbs to the next tier as your list grows.

How much does Kit cost compared to SendFox?

At 5,000 subscribers, Kit Creator costs $89 a month — $1,068 a year (kit.com/pricing, monthly billing, September 2026). SendFox Lifetime covers the same 5,000 contacts for $29, paid once. Above 5,000 contacts, SendFox Pro plans start at $19 a month.

Isn't Kit free up to 10,000 subscribers?

It is — but Kit's free plan does not include visual automations, email sequences, or third-party integrations, and keeps Kit branding on your emails. Your first automation needs Creator, which starts at $39 a month. SendFox Free includes an automation and integrations, with 1,000 contacts and 3,000 sends a month.

Can I import my Kit contacts into SendFox?

Yes. Connect your Kit account and import all your subscribers — or just one Kit tag — or upload a CSV export. The import takes about two minutes.
