action;
[It's early morning when Chopper is awoken by the quiet sound of snuffling outside. His sensitive nose hasn't been working very well lately, thanks to all the ash in the air, but his sense of hearing is almost as sharp - sharp enough to identify the noise immediately, out of familiarity more than anything else.]
[Lumbering gait. Heavy, snorting breaths. The low growl.]
[Lapahn.]
[His heart leaping into his chest, Chopper stumbles to his feet, grabs his PCD, and bolts for the door. The smarter part of him knows he should wake up one of his nakama for this, but he's running on instinct now; Lapahn are natural predators of reindeer in his world, and even the little time he spent with his birth herd has taught him everything he needs to know.]
[Mainly, that they have even better hearing than he does. If he's heard it, it's heard him, along with all of the other residents of this home. It's coming for them - now.]
[Just as Chopper gets to the main room, he hears the loud snuffling right around the door frame, followed by a low, angry growl and some scratching at the door. A clack of hooves against the floor, a muffled thump, and a quiet whirlwind of snarling is all the preamble his roommates will receive - and mind, it's not all that loud a series of events - before Chopper disentangles himself from the fight and bolts southward. He knows he can easily take it on, but everyone's asleep, boxed in the house, and off their guard; if the noise draws any more predators they're in big trouble.]
[But, as he shortly notices while running, that's the thing - it's only the one. Which is unusual. Lapahn hunt in packs. He's not sure yet whether this odd behavior is a good thing or a horrible thing, but it's too late to turn back now.]
--
video;
[Sometime later, well into the day, Chopper will appear on the PCD. He's a little roughed up, with uneven patches of fur along his shoulders, and his message is blunt. He's given a similar warning before - but now it's much more dire.]
Lapahn have started coming closer inland. They're large, carnivorous rabbits, and they usually hunt in groups. If there's still anyone else out there... be careful.
--
[ooc; housemates, don't worry - no giant killer bunnies will be swarming the house |D (unless you want them to, that is)]

[action]
[she takes off to follow, making it a block away from the house before she remembers her stupid dust trail would defeat the purpose of running and she doesn't dare risk her psionics further, forcing her to land and sprint after on foot. she's got no hope of catching up, but she has to try.]
[good god, she's out of practice.]
[action]
His straw hat's still perched atop a pile of furs, he'd left in far too much haste, and so there's a disheveled young man dressed in literally only a pair of denim cut off at the knees, fighting a little war with himself not to just.
Fall asleep again while running.
It's a fight he loses, sending him sprawling to the floor and tumbling at speed, until he bounces -- actually bounces off the stoop and lands hard on the ground.
That wakes him back up. ]
Snrt-- wha? Chopper? Where'deego... I'll kick all their--
[ His head droops as he starts to snore again. Oh, gross, there's a bubble growing from one nostril.
Aradia, little help? ]
[action]
[she pauses long enough to reach out with her psionics and start trying to drag him along behind her, not really wanting to get close enough to wake him up properly. you try and wake a troll up, you get chomped on, and she's unsure if that applies to humans too. if he ends up accidentally being telekinetically smacked into things, forgive her, her panicked aim isnt the best right now.]
[doesn't stop her from telling him off as it happens, though.]
Someone's in danger, and you're wasting time sleeping? [humans are so weird]
[action]
Ah!! You're right! CHOPP--
[ Luffy's cry is cut short by a wheeze of surprise. ]
I'M FLYING?!
[action]
[aradia's response is way more clipped then she intended, her attention split between keeping luffy aloft and desperately trying to follow choppper's panicked trail. its a bigger strain on her then she expected it to be. especially the psionic part, that should be easy. fatigue sucks, kids, don't try it at home.]
[she's gonna drop you now tho, bro. you're on your own that you're awake.]
I couldn't just leave you there. You could've gotten eaten if they came back!
[action]
[Chopper is still nowhere in sight - nor is his pursuer - but as it turns out, his initial observation had been slightly incorrect.]
[It's not just the one. Not in the entire vicinity, anyway. As Luffy is dropped to the ground, there's a chorus of low, hungry snarls that vibrate through the air; a group of bear-sized shadows rise against the morning sun at a distance, blinking red eyes in their direction. Then a whirlwind of ash kicks up behind them, and about half a dozen shadows come bolting towards the duo with the speed of jackrabbits, claws already outstretched and maws wide with sharp teeth.]
[Think fast, you two.]
[action] been a while since i multitagged - order or no need? :D
[as soon as she hears the snarls she freezes; when they actually come charging her wings flare open and she reaches for power that
isn't
there.]
[she forgets too late that she can't freeze time like she's used to, can't give herself room to breathe with a snap of her fingers. she tries to bolt into the air a heartbeat later but the delay fouls her timing and leaves her unsure if she'll make it to a safely vertical distance before they hit her. she certainly can't grab luffy and run like she'd planned.]
[aradia talks a big game, but its starting to sink in that she's not a god here. she's just a terrified alien kid with pixie wings who's in over her head.]
[action] PSHAW, ORDER... just have fun!
[action] aye aye cap'n
[Action] /slips this in here
[Action] /totally doesnt do the same nope
[Action] I SEE YOU THERE
[Action] MEEP.

NO I'M SUPER LATE GOMEN orz
[video]
[Excuse him, Sanji's voice is a little tight when he picks up this feed. Not that he's the spitting image of health, but his doctor is looking more haggard than usual. He almost wishes he used swords for the simple theatrics of unsheathing them]
Where are you? [And are the Lapahn still there?]
Home. You should come back... there's something I have to tell you.
Resisting the urge to chuck his PCD into the sky, at that shitty cloud that's mocking him, and Sanji quickly digs out one of his cigarettes - his precious supply that he's been saving for particularly ugly days.
He'll need it today, that much he can tell right off the bat.]
On the way. [Voice still clipped, he can't stop himself, but it's grown quiet as well. There's sick expectation lurking underneath it, and Sanji only lingers long enough to light up his nicotine before heading back to the house.]
[action]
[Inside, Chopper's cap and hat have both been left by the front door. The little reindeer himself can be found crouched near the back of the room, facing away from Sanji and fiddling with something on the floor. For all intents and purposes, he's still in one piece - missing a few patches of clawed-out fur, but not unduly transformed into a pile of chopped venison.]
[action]
Right, there's a reason he's back so early. Mouth thinning into a line again, he walks up behind the reindeer, choosing to remain standing.]
Chopper? [He's mastered his frustration, tucked it away. Fuck if it'll do him much good, but he'll keep up pretenses long enough for the doctor to share the bad news.]
[action]
Sanji!
[Chopper gets to his feet and turns, in the process revealing what he'd been working on: what's left of his medical supplies are spread across the floor, herbs and jars scattered across a clean towel, paste smeared along the bottom of a mortar bowl. The bottom part of a leg from Chopper's shorts has been torn off, now resting in a makeshift bandage job around his right shin. The orange color has been darkened with moisture.]
Did you see any Lapahn on the way back?
[Stalling? Maybe a tiny bit.]
[action]
[Sanji lets him stall. He's openly distracted by the medical spread in front of the doctor, then - his stare flickering down - the bandages covering the shin.
Another strange sight for the chef; of course Chopper has seen battle, he's a Straw Hat for shit's sake, but it strikes Sanji numb, suddenly, that Chopper technically has no doctor. Only himself. The crew is allowed their idiocy, to bleed and hurt to flirt with death, because he's always there to fix the worst. But if he's injured beyond what Nami or Sanji can do for him in this place, then that's the end, isn't it?
He dies.
Very quietly again:] Let's hear it, Chopper.

It's like you broke curfew or something.
Hi I am just inside the door and waiting for you, Chopper. Nothing to be frightened of.]
[Action]
[Drop his eyes to the floor and refuse to look at her.]
[... so, so stupid. he has to tell his nakama. but how can he do that to them?]
[Action]
He's not angry at him.
Not even the silence, the stiff set of his shoulders could give that impression, not with the way he's hugging him close. ]
We're back.
[ YES SHE CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT, GOOD JOB, LUFFY. ]
[Action]
[Said sharply, but not as much as she was intending to be. Nami can already tell something's off, and she stares at them both as she closes the door behind them. She's frustrated. There's no point saying stay together for protection if one of them runs away from the very people that could help.]
Well?
[C'mon. Tell her why you won't meet her eyes.]
[Action]
[His voice is small and distant, sounding like a vague theory for all it tries to be an explanation. He finally gathers the courage to lift his eyes, but they have an almost hunted quality to them, like half of his brain is somewhere else.]
They're experts at ambushing, and everyone was asleep, so I... I-I thought... I thought everyone was in danger!
[Action]
Because they care about each other, and love in the face of danger makes people do really dumb things sometimes. ]
You wanted to protect us, and I get it. But we're protecting each other, so you can't just run off like that! Nami's real worried, too..!

[SO HELPFUL.]
I can't do much, but I can help you regain your strength in small doses over time.
[voice]
How? Do you have powers, too?
[voice]
I prefer being... considerate.
