AC unit had to be replaced on Thursday again. After that it has been running great. It is nice to be able to sleep soundly again. It is still very hot around here and looks to stay that way for awhile. Summers can be very intense around here. Hopefully we won't have to worry about the AC again for a few years.
We had an new HVAC unit installed on Thursday. It worked for a little while less than 24 hours and then it failed. We didn't really notice it until late Friday, at least our insulation is pretty good. Saturday the they came out to fix it replaced a part twice it was cooling but not like it should. We milked it through Sunday but I noticed it failed again when I went to work this Monday morning. They are here right now working on it again. They replaced the coil, cleaned the lines and are putting in new refrigerant. Hopefully it will work this time.
Retirement and snuff cans
Mar. 31st, 2018 12:46 pmYesterday I went and got a cake and had it personalized for a co-worker on her last day at work today. She was retiring with like 40+ years of government service. She was surprised and happy. It irritated me that the managers hadn't done this. I know she wasn't the most popular person at work but everyone deserves a cake when the leave a job or retire. It just seemed like a nice thing to do and I'm glad it made her happy.
Also the mysterious snuff master has started throwing their snuff cans in my yard again. It is really annoying that they seem to only do it in our yard. I would love to catch them doing it someday.

Keyboard and mouse
Mar. 27th, 2018 12:08 amGot a new keyboard and mouse for my computer. Needed a back-lit keyboard since where my computer is currently is very dark. Also wanted something a little more for gaming and with a more standard lay out like I use a work. Ended up with a Corsair keyboard and mouse. Both are quite nice and very easy to customize. The keys are easy to read and light up as bright as I would like.
Star Wars the last Jedi
Dec. 15th, 2017 05:23 pmMaria and I went to see it last night after I got off work. I had seen the 11:30 showing wasn't very crowded and I figured it would be easier for me to stay up late than to try to get up early.
The movie was fantastic! I haven't had that much fun at a movie in a long time. Opening night audiences bring a lot of energy and it was infectious. No spoiling anything but if you like Star Wars at all you will really like this film. Also thinking back at some of the trailers and ads for this movie there was some good miss direction in them and they don't really give anything away.

RIP Roy Dotrice
Oct. 16th, 2017 08:38 pmSad to hear about Roy Dotrice passing. Was first introduced to him when he was on Space 1999. He always played great character roles. His reading of the Song of Ice and Fire books were great. RIP.

Water where I don't want it
Jul. 25th, 2017 10:23 pmFinally after three days I got my office computer back online. With the basement carpet around my computer wet and moldy I had to rip up the carpet, get a dehumidifier, throw out the old wet power strips, replace with new ones that are on the desk not the floor, rearranged a bunch of stuff and now I finally feel safe enough to turn everything back on. Office is still a mess. Will continue to rip out carpet until it's all gone. Since I already started it I might as well replace it with something that I won't have worry about getting wet again.
GURPS Technomancer
Jun. 8th, 2017 05:15 pmI've been playing around with Campaign Cartographer to make a battle map for my GURPS Technomancer game. I'ts been a long time since the last game and I wasn't happy with how I ended the last game. (I didn't feel well and I was very tired that day.) So as a surprise and personal goal for myself I made this map. It not the best but not bad for my first effort in a long time.

Finished up Cyteen by C.J. Cherryh today. A very impressive book. It did a great job both keeping me entertained and making me think about the subject matter of the book. I loved how we are introduced to the main character then she dies and then were are told how she grew up through how they raised her clone. They wanted her to be raised how her predecessor was hoping that she would be a genius too. Very interesting and cool ideas and the author pulls it off very well.
One of my co-workers retired today. I envy Kim her new found freedom. She's planning to start writing full time now.

ConQuest 48/UnderCon
May. 28th, 2017 12:48 amI've been playing lots and lots of Munchkin and several other SJ Games this weekend. Doing the MIB thing. You know this was way easier when I was younger. Thinking back I've been doing demos and playtesting for SJG for over 25 years. I'll have to figure out what the actual number is when I'm less tired. Funny I met my wife because I went to Dragoncon to work the both for SJ Games and demoed a couple of GURPS games. I guess this really has been a major influence on my life.
Mowed the lawn again. All the rain we had gotten last week caused a big growth spurt. The yard looks pretty good now but It really needs me to spend at least two hours twice a week to keep it up. Unfortunately I currently don't have the time. Maybe after I retire I'll be able to spend more time working on it.
