The door slamming behind Sabrina as she stormed into her family abode echoed. "AUNT HILDA! AUNT ZELDA!" No doting aunt appeared -- not that she'd thought there would be from the echoing stillness. She dropped her bookbag on the floor and let her tears begin. She couldn't believe Harvey was seeing Libby again!
"In here," a muffled voice called.
"Salem, I'm really not in the mood for any trickery -- " Sabrina started but stopped still when she entered the kitchen to see Salem's furry behind and tail practically wagging as he tried to hook his front paws around a spoon.
Sabrina's eyes darted between the cat and the fridge. She knew what a struggle he had doing nearly anything the mortals -- or even the Witches themselves -- took for granted. Yet, somehow, he'd gotten the ice cream out of the fridge, and it was her favorite to boot!
"Voila!" he exclaimed, successfully pulling out two spoons. But then he cried aloud as he toppled furry face forward off of the counter.
Sabrina pointed, and the cat, spoons, and ice cream all flew to sit on the table. Another point, and the Rocky Road was neatly divided between two bowls. Another point, and sprinkles, whipped cream, and, on hers, chocolate syrup rained onto the ice cream. She took a bite and savored every drop, her eyes even closing. "I guess being me isn't so bad after all."
The sounds with which Salem responded seemed to indicate his agreement, but maybe he was just enjoying his ice cream that much. Sabrina stroked his head. Her aunts always tried to help, but Salem often ended up being the one there for her most often. Maybe there was something to be said for being a Witch -- or having a talking, family cat -- or doing uncle -- most especially!
