continued from August 2016 intro See, I thought it was always something with Time Compression. Good to know technology's just as bad. [He gives his MID a baleful look. When are you going to mess up on him?]
But hey - thanks.
[Getting to Drake on his own is a reassuring kind of spoiler - this version of himself apparently doesn't even have his Garden tricks up his sleeve and still made it.]
continued from August 2016 intro [Nate laughs.] Hey, it's okay. I can take care of myself. [So he's good finding things out for himself instead of by asking.]
Uh, in order: [He ticks them off on his fingers as he goes.] Yes. It was this weird mix of better and more common tech than I was used to and magic, and weird prejudice against off-worlders in some places, but there was this school taking a lot of us in. [And a more destructive group of off-worlders, but let's not talk about that.] No one else I knew from home was there, but there was a fair amount of off-worlders.
[Beat.]
And more than a few of them weren't human. [You know, just to explain his understated reaction to her.]
I can too. Doesn't mean a little help now and again is a bad thing. [But she understands what he means. While she did ask a lot of questions when she first arrived, she also took to exploring the ship and learning it on her own.]
That's so weird. I mean, it sounds a lot like this place? I'm not really sure if magic is involved here, though. As far as I can tell, it's just a faulty Ingress. But still. [And there was some prejudice, too, from what she had heard about the first run in with the Caducans that recently attacked. She doubted that would be the last time.]
Those off-worlders-- they weren't all from the same planet, were they? Were multiple universes involved there, too?
continued from August 2016 intro [Despite the crazy worldhopping function, it has a very 90's JRPG interface. The Travel menu includes features like universe scanner (for going to the universe of a person you scan, according to the explanatory text), saved universe addresses, travel, and return to B-Garden.]
They brought stuff back with them, and it wasn't the kind of thing sold in town or anywhere the school travelled. So. [Nate shrugs. Rather than feeling defensive about it, he's just giving more details. He knows he didn't make this up.]
continued from December 2016 intro Not in the mood to apologize for the lack of warning if he's not even going to thank him for getting him down, Nate coolly sheathes his gunblade, only to narrow his eyes at the dual insult to both him and, unknowingly, Garden. He can tolerate a friendly 'kid' from someone he knows, like his older self, but not from a stranger whom he's just helped. Also, he was so close to graduating before the war started, and he's 'run around with' his gunblade in higher stakes situations than this.
"Actually, it's called a gunblade, not a sword. You ever see a sword with a gun action?" He folds his arms. They'd gone over the difference in weapons 101, and with his bladed weapons instructor being a sword specialist, he'd come to notice more differences in technique. "And no one needs to 'let me' do anything, but I've trained with this."
A gunblade. The kid, yes kid, talks to him like he should have seen a sword like this. How could Rafe have gone through his adult life not having seen such an impressive blade?
"Actually, no. I haven't, because that's ridiculous." It sounds ridiculous... it looks. It looks it too. Something a kid would doodle on the corner of their homework in class.
"Should I be asking to see your permit for that? I mean that is a gun, plus a large blade. Or does no one care about that here?" Now he's just giving the kid shit. Why not. Yes, give the kid with a gun sword a hard time. This is not a bad idea.
[There's a ping, and Nate Jr. will find their TAB lighting up with what is, perhaps, the most straightforward birthday invitation you've ever seen.
Clearly made in a template, maybe titled "PROFESSIONAL LINES" or something equally boring, it invites you to a "a small birthday celebration" at a new restaurant/bar opening in Kauto's Region 1.
There is a button to RSVP, and the additional option to add a "plus one".
[And the next time Shepard is in the office, she will find on her desk a page ripped from Nate's journal with a sketch of her shooting a clown. It is sick. Scribbled underneath:]
[She runs into it the day of the party proper, and immediately pins it to her wall. Nate the Senior could admire his own paradoxical handiwork at some point in the future.]
BCC'D NORMANDY SECURITIES MASS MAIL; BACKDATED TO MORNING OF MAY 16TH (DAY 36)

As always, thank you all for your persistent assistance and hard work in helping to form and continue Normandy Securities. Please use this unplanned vacation time to relax and spend some time with those you love.
[Not getting an immediate reply back is a little weird, but Sam figures it's just because they're all trying to readjust to space ship life. Still, when that text comes in, it gets a quizzical look.]

[Does he even want to know about the Time Compression? He's not sure.]
Sure. Going to be a while before either of us can go on a treasure hunt here, though. Unless the Moira's got some major surprises.
[Even if it does, hunting for treasure in space isn't his style. Get them on a planet, things might be different.]

Once. Garden got caught up in a war.
[Which is a long story he doesn't entirely feel like telling right now, so instead he looks back at the cliff, trying to find a safer way up.]
