AET
How acoustic emission tests reveal hidden risks
In many industrial installations, small cracks or material defects often go unnoticed until it’s too late. Traditional inspection methods typically detect problems only when they have become severe. Acoustic emission testing (AET) offers a solution: AET listens to the material itself and uncovers risks before damage occurs. During an acoustic emission test for the requalification of a pressure vessel, a group of indications was detected near a support. A more thorough investigation was requested at the exact position of the indication to determine its nature.

Control method remaining life underground tank
TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium has developed a control method to determine the quality and remaining life of underground tank, as stated in the VLAREM legislation for storage of flammable and hazardous liquids in underground containers. This method has been accepted by the Environment Department responsible for the environmental permit and included in the list of approved control methods.
Sustainability
Diest pupils plant own school forest: playground becomes green learning space
Sustainability will literally take root in the playground of KSD Sint-Jan School in Diest on Thursday. Together with the pupils, TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium is planting its own Miyawaki school forest: a dense, indigenous micro-forest that enhances biodiversity and lets children experience what nature does to well-being and learning abilities.
Non-Destructive Testing
Did you know TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium operates a large industrial radiography bunker?
Radiography remains one of the most effective non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for assessing the integrity of metallic and non-metallic materials. But recent legislation has changed how and where it can be applied. Following the Royal Decree of 17 February 2023 (published 3 April 2023), the use of radiography directly on-site is becoming increasingly restricted. As of April 2025, smaller components (those under 500 kg and 1 m³) must be examined in a dedicated facility. That is why TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium has invested in a fully compliant industrial radiography bunker.
