PREMISE.
Regardless of where you were before, you wake up to the sounds of bustling civilization. Shadowy, indistinct people go about their day, chatting unintelligible words that don't sound real to you. They pay you no heed at all, aside from stepping around you to avoid a collision — but if you try and touch them, it feels as though your hand is passing through dense smoke, like they're phantoms.
Or, perhaps the phantom is you? You can't entirely remember what you were doing just before this. That bit of memory remains blurry, no matter how hard you try to recall. Not that you have much time to reflect on this, as an alert from your phone goes off. Actually, where did this phone even come from? Huh. Yet another thing you don't have room to think on, as the contents may be of a more pressing concern.
Welcome to the Reaper's Game.
FORMAT.
This game is loosely based on the Mafia party game, though we will be changing a few things as necessary for this game's particular play style.
Every week, characters will find themselves facing challenges, working with their team to survive, and learning more about the Reaper's Game they're playing in. However, every week, at least one character will be murdered. Upon discovery of the murder, the remaining characters will have to work together to gather clues and solve this mystery to catch a culprit responsible.
While the traditional Mafia style has a set group of killers, we will be operating primarily with murder proposals and a rotating mafia system. What this means is that players may submit proposals and those will be priority, but mods will also have a system in-play to RNG different characters per week to be a culprit. The remaining characters are tasked with finding the culprit and solving the mystery of that week.
SCHEDULE.
Our schedule will operate as follows:
MONDAY-THURSDAY: Each Monday will begin with a weekly mingle for characters. Much like games in the past, there will be new things to do each week for characters to interact with the setting. These mingles will go up at 12pm EST. In addition, sometimes during the week mini-events or other adventures will take place based on player action and mod scheduling. We will notify players in advance should this occur.
THURSDAY MORNING: On Thursday morning at 10am EST, we will unscreen the weekly curfew toplevel for players to reply with their curfew status for the week! This is the time to tell your mods where your character will be staying during the hours kills may occur. For the purpose of this game, we do ask that players submit their curfew no later than 8pm EST. If you are not able to submit a comment yourself during those hours due to work, etc, we will also allow players to include other characters in their comment. For example, if player B canโt submit their comment but plans to spend curfew with player A, player A may submit a comment stating: โA&B will be in X!โ
We do not accept late curfew posts to be included in the bonus mechanic! More information will be available once the curfew mechanic kicks in.
FRIDAY: Investigation time! Like
SATURDAY: Weโre sure youโll all be very shocked to learn that Saturday is Trial Day! All characters will be required to attend ICly and we do ask that players are available for these days. If you need to miss a trial, please let us know as soon as you know/least 48 hours in advance so we may plan accordingly! Trials will begin at 12pm EST and will end at 9pm EST unless stated otherwise. A one hour break will also take place at 5pm EST for players to step away for lunch/dinner, and for mod tags to pause. ICly characters will not be able to leave the trial unless ICly dismissed early.
IC voting will also be live at the start of the trial and close at the end. Once the vote is closed, we will announce the party with the majority of votes.
SUNDAY: Sundays will be execution/erasure day! This is the day in which a selected party will come forward to execute whoever is put up for erasure. While executions are not mandatory the way trials are, they are open to the public to witness. Executions will begin at 1pm EST.
This cycle repeats until we hit an ending to the game!
FAQ.
What is the pacing of the game?
Our game will be running on a 1:1 schedule and functioning on EST. Please refer to the above timeline for when important posts will go up.
Do I have to be present for every trial?
If something comes up and you are unable to be present for a trial, please let us know in advance! We prefer at least 48 hours in advance (minimum 24 unless it's an emergency), but if you come to us really early before the trial starts or in the first hour of the trial we will be a bit lenient. If you do not let us know in advance, you will be killed off in-game.
How long will the game last?
We're aiming for a minimum of six and a maximum of eight weeks!
Should a player need to leave the game prior to endgame, please speak with the mod team and we will discuss the next steps with you.
If I die early what happens next?
We will have a graveyard for characters to continue playing in and participating in! You can do open threads on the main graveyard post, or you may have private conversations with other dead characters. In addition, characters in the graveyard will be presented with opportunities the living side does not have access to.
Private conversations?
Private conversations! Sometimes your character (or a group of characters) will want to get together with people to spend time together or share information or whatever. This would become a private conversation that isn't shared with the game at large. Please check out the private conversations page for information on how to set up journal filters and more.
How active do I have to be?
We like to see that players are participating either via weekly mingles, private threads, or both in addition to participation in trials! The game functions best when all players are active and engaging, so please keep this in mind when apping in! We ask that your time be managed well.
How do I contact the mod team for any questions/concerns/murder plans?
We will be operating primarily on Discord, so please be sure to create a group chat with Zia, Francy, and Jan! Discord is the most effective method for all of your mods, and our Discord handles will be available in the group server.
RULES.
1.) Please be nice! This is a game specifically created with the intention of all of our friends playing together in a fun environment, so we would really love for our friends to treat each other well. Please remember that IC =/= OOC and while murdergames can be competitive we ask that everyone treats everyone else with respect.
2.) Please be active! Yes, we've said it like six times in this page alone but this is a Very Big Thing!
3.) Please keep sensitive info (e.g. knowledge of murders, anything not publicly revealed to the game, etc.) a secret! Naturally ICly characters may share things with each other if it comes up in conversation and it becomes a fun game of chance, but we ask that OOCly you do not share them with other people.
4.) Keep in mind that this is a murdergame which means your character is just as likely to die as the next! Whether that's in week one or week six, if your character is chosen to be a victim that week they will be sent to the chopping block. However, we will have other things for the dead to do.
5.) Similarly, as we are operating on RNG killers, the above rule also applies to being asked to kill! Your character may be rolled as a killer any week, and barring OOC schedule conflicts, that decision is final.
6.) At this time, canon powers/abilities are nerfed! While your character may be the strongest most powerful person in their canon it will not mean much here. Oops.
7.) Finally, if at any time you have concerns or feel uncomfortable about something in-game please contact us! As this is a game of our friends, we hope that you guys will come talk to us immediately so that we can get things straightened out and help where we can. Please do not feel as though any concern is too small or insignificant. As mods, we're here to help make everyone feel welcome and have a good time.
