CHARACTER NAME: Razputin Aquato
SERIES: The Excellent Game Psychonauts!
CANON POINT: Post-canon.
AGE: 10
APPEARANCE: and that is the purpose of the goggles.
PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: None.
PERSONALITY:
At only ten years old, Raz is an accomplished circus performer, talented psychic, accredited international Psychonaut, and one-time world-savior - a pretty impressive resume. Still, he's just a kid, always looking for adventure and entertainment, and with plenty left to learn in the world. And it wasn't all frolicking and flowers to get to where he is now.
First impressions of Raz would lead one to believe he was just a big ham with a flair for pleasing the crowd. Considering his circus upbringing, it's not surprising; Razputin really loves to show off and be the center of attention. He can be unironically melodramatic about things he's passionate about, sometimes to the chagrin of others. And he's also quite the jokester, occasionally at the expense of others. Both traits come with a heaping helping of spontaneity; he doesn't seem to have very much of a filter on his mouth sometimes. If he thinks you're weird or scary, chances are he'll just say it to your face, even if he comes to like you afterwards. Similarly, if you say something mean or provocative, there's a really high chance he'll return the favor with a snarky quip. The same can be said for his actions. Not that he's against a little planning, but he seems to be much more of a "chase after highly-dangerous psychic death tank first, talk later" kind of guy. After all, he did run away to Whispering Rock pretty much out of nowhere on impulse without even thinking of the potential ramifications, such as, well... getting turned away. He's got big dreams, and he's all about chasing them to the finish line.
This all stems from a self-confident and rebellious nature. Having grown up as an entertainer, Razputin is extremely comfortable around other people and believing in his own ability to succeed at any task; the fact that he usually is successful helps bolster that self-esteem. Thus, while he does crack lots of jokes, he tends to take himself very seriously - maybe a bit too seriously, considering he is (or was) just a 10-year-old psychic summer camp cadet. This typically inspires either eye-rolling from those who are more level-headed or admiration from those who also take Raz very seriously, and he takes both reactions in stride. However, he also grew up in what he thought was a semi-oppressive environment, with his father discouraging his psychic abilities. But, obviously, he wasn't going to be stopping those anytime soon, and he evidently has a bit of a rebellious streak, breaking camp rules fairly often.
Along the same lines as his love of being in the spotlight, Raz also loves to be the hero - his dream of becoming a Psychonaut is just the beginning of his attempted heroics. But this certainly isn't out of any sort of arrogance... or at least not all of it. As a matter of fact, he's a pretty friendly kid, slight ego aside. He might carry around a solid serving of blunt honesty and dry wit, but Raz will befriend pretty much anyone, given the chance. He's quite forgiving towards those who make bad first impressions if they prove that they're not so bad after all, and seems to pick up quickly whether people are honestly cruel or just teasing and/or awkward. The social hierarchy of the camp seems to be invisible or just plain irrelevant to him, and he cheerfully chats with the cool kids and the losers alike. In fact, he actually sticks up for Dogan, a younger kid who's a little troubled and awkward about the whole psychic summer camp thing. The same goes for the counselors, whom he treats very politely and respectfully - although a good portion of that courtesy might just be due to the fact that they're his Psychonaut idols. It seems that he's got a strong sense of justice and a desire to help unfortunate people if he can, and he often sticks his nose into other people's potentially dangerous business because of it. He's also very, very brave, and doesn't seem afraid of things most normal 10-year-olds would run from. Other than water, anyway.
That said, he can hold grudges, he doesn't really have a problem with meting out a beating to a bad guy who really needs it, and he really enjoys causing mischief from time to time. While it'd definitely be wrong to call him socially awkward, he seems to miss obvious cues or not understand the concept of "there's a time and place for this, and it is not now," such as launching into a dramatic speech when he first shows up at the camp instead of explaining himself (although that worked out for the best) and the entire situation with Lili. Raz also makes assumptions fairly often, and they're not always right. For example, he causes a huge disaster in Sasha's brain by destroying all of his mental censors after he thought they were the ones causing trouble. And an even more dramatic example would be his assumption that his father was trying to quash his psychic abilities because of some sort of fear or prejudice, when in reality he was only trying to protect his son. Actually talking about it could've saved you a lot of trouble, huh, Raz?
Still, Razputin is overall a pretty extraordinary little boy, dorky goggles aside. His great talents are only matched by his willingness to use them whenever they're needed... and sometimes when they're not, but it would be pretty fun to use 'em anyway. He has a whole lot of spunk, and while he definitely gets into no good on a routine basis, his heart (and his brain!) is definitely in the right place.
ABILITIES: Raz is a highly-talented psychic, which entails pretty much what you'd think it would. He's got a whole host of psychic abilities.
Telekinesis: The ability to move things with his mind. He can't pick up anything really big - probably nothing larger than a garbage can.
Invisibility: Exactly what it sounds like. Raz can turn invisible for about 10 seconds.
Pyrokinesis: The ability to set things on fire with his mind!! What could be better?
Clairvoyance: The ability to see through the eyes of other beings. Raz can also sometimes use this on items if they have a strong enough connection to said other being (for example, he can use this ability on a crow's feather and see through the eyes of a crow.)
Shield: Exactly what it sounds like. Raz can form a psychic shield for about 10 seconds, which protects him from... most things.
Levitation: Not exactly what it sounds like! Levitation involves standing on an orb of psychic energy, which Raz can roll around on for increased speed and also bounce around on to jump higher. It can also be used as a parachute to slow his fall.
Additionally, he has the ability to focus his aggression into little psybeams, which he can fire at people, and some other standard psychic abilities which he didn't require training in, such as a strong mental defense (his brain is referred to as "armored like a tank") and mind-reading, which he usually does by accident. There'll be permissions posts for this stuff, obviously.
Since he grew up in the circus, Raz is also very athletic, with a wide range of acrobatic talents. He's pretty strong!
POSSESSIONS:
The Psycho-Portal: A handy little device that, when attached to someone's head, allows a psychic to enter their headspace! This will only be used with OOC permission, of course.
Smelling Salts: What it sounds like. These can get Raz out of someone's brain in a pinch, if he really needs to get back to the real world.

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE: dear mun thread!
I have another, more action-based sample if you need more.
THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
The best thing about having the daughter of the Psychonauts' grand chairman? She had basically every issue of True Psychic Tales ever published, ever. And him? He had full access to it. All of it.
Well, actually, he didn't know much about dating in general, but Raz was pretty sure this was the number two top benefit behind making out. Possibly even tied with making out. It was a tough call, and making an arbitrary list of the top ten best things about going out with Lili was hardly the first thing on his mind while he was engrossed in the engaging tale of Agent Butterson and his infiltration of a camp of dangerous rogue pyrokinetics. In the middle of the Amazon. Surrounded by rivers filled with crocodiles. Psychic crocodiles.
Did it get more intense, more epic, and more suspenseful than that? I think not.
Or at least that's what mister Youngest Psychonaut Ever thought while his nose was tucked away in the old magazine (limited edition, 1976) and he hung upside-down by a single leg from a push-up bar, which was most certainly not intended to be used like this. It's not like his dad would get mad at him for reading them anymore and therefore he had no choice but to sneak reading into his daily practice, but old habits died hard - it just felt like he should be doing something else while he was reading! Besides, he didn't even have to concentrate to pull off this kind of stupid double-tasking anymore. He certainly wasn't feeling the burn like the innocent victims of the Dark Psycho-Syndicate undoubtedly were within the confines of their reptile-lined secret base. Not that it'd stay that way for long - the biggest, meanest, ugliest crocodiles in the world couldn't keep out a Psychonaut.
And that thought made a grin break his look of nerdy concentration. He'd been worried at first that his favorite serialized stories wouldn't be as exciting anymore, now that he was, well... living them. It'd be the modest thing to say that it was still hard to believe he was really a Psychonaut, but honestly, he was enjoying every minute of it in some way or another. What's the point of reading the comics when he knew the reality, right? But it turned out the opposite was true. Because now he knew that all this awesome stuff he'd read about for years was all real. And not only that - it was in his future, too.
One day, they were gonna write an issue of True Psychic Tales where he was the star. And it was gonna be the best issue ever. For sure.
