What is britcomcom?
This is a dedicated community for fans to share their love for all things britcom! The comm is a space for discussion, news, fanworks, gifs, resources and all the things you'd expect in a fandom, really. We're a small but dedicated group and would love you to join and contribute your enthusiasm for British comedy and all it entails! You don't need to be a talented gif-er or artist to be welcomed, all you need is an interest in britcom and a willingness to get involved. After all, a fandom is only as active as it's members!

Becoming a member:
Anyone can subscribe to the group and start commenting and sharing posts, but if you become a member you'll have access to exclusive uploads and all sorts exciting stuff! If you are of a more- shall we say, fannish persuasion, becoming a member will give you access to the anonmeme, a slash-based Slack chat basically everything that we don't want on the open internet.

Membership is moderated but we'll almost definitely let you in (as long as you're not a certain Mr. R. Herring...) All you have to do is request to join the comm and introduce yourself, and one of us admins will evaluate your account and send you an invite PM within a few days. That's all!

The rules:
General Dreamwidth etiquette rules apply here, e.g. put big images and walls of text under a cut, resize your images to a sensible resolution, use content warnings when need. Before you make a post, please check that there hasn't already been one on the same subject, and follow our system when tagging. Rips, torrents, nsfw and ship content should not be posted publicly. Just use your common sense and you'll be fine.

Alright, cheers!

• A Christmas special of Taskmaster will be aired on Channel 4 this December
• The one-off festive episode will feature contestants who have not previously taken part in the hit show
• The episode is expected to air the week after the winner of Series 10 is revealed

The Chortle article does mention "Chanel[sic] 4 says only that the five competitors come from the worlds of ‘TV, film, radio, journalism, and shiny floor entertainment’ and are experts in their fields." so I'm thinking they'll be getting more mainstream, non-comedians guests for this one 🤔 What do you think?

Comedy never gets any public funding from the Department for Digital, Culture, Music, and Sport.
Live comedy isn’t viewed as being equal to other art forms, by the funding bodies across the UK that will be distributing this week's £1.57 billion support package.

We could lose over 70% of the grass roots comedy clubs that keep comedy alive, not to mention that it'll make an industry already dominated by middle-class white men even more so, by choking off entry points to everyone apart from the most comfortable and secure.

Comedy is an artform and deserves to be treated as such. Without access to financial support comedy will not exist as we know it.

Please sign this open letter to stop comedy being forgotten by government arts funding:

Discussion time! What comedian(s) do you wish more people knew about? Or perhaps they're not as well known, but you're fine with that and feel great about being one of the few who appreciates them? Feel free to simply list their names, or go further and add some good starting points for their stuff, link to your manifesto on what makes them so great, etc. They don't need to be super unknown, it's hard to judge popularity objectively anyway.

Since the very beginning of lockdown we've been holding daily watchalongs of Taskmaster, making our way through every episode together. We'll be watching the first episode of series 7 this thursday at 21:00 BST, and continuing to watch an episode every weekday evening at the same time. These watchalongs take place over the britcomcom slack, which you should have a link to in your comm membership PM.

It's honestly such great fun to participate in this watchalongs, and I hope to see you there!

Hello, I hope everyone is doing ok! Here's a little post for us to check in on each other / have a chat as a distraction from Things.

• How have you been passing the time? Are you working from home / starting a creative project / staring at an interesting wall /etc?
• There's been an absolute deluge of online britcom content lately from comedians cooped up in their homes - including livestreams/podcasts/videos - what's been your favourite(s)?! Pls let me know because I can't keep up with all of them...
• Other britcom recommendations would be appreciated as well tbh!
• anon comments are enabled for shy people

also a tiny reminder that our anon meme is available at [community profile] britcomcom_anon
and we also run [community profile] radiospeakeasy which is an archive of radio comedy stuff!

There was a studio webcam and well... I couldn't help myself. :P

Please enjoy this obscenely large picspam! (Maybe give it a miss if you've not into Elis and/or John, it probably won't have anything for you.)

Read more... )And it's done! Won't be doing this again because it takes far too long (and also they put out actual clips on the twitter account). Still, hope you've enjoyed this picspam!

Howdy folks! Because I am A NERD I read the Magazine section of the Welsh-language BBC website, and I was chuffed to see this pop up:

Contains some nice pics (inc. tiny Elis with bear :) ) - and see below for my rough stab at a translation! (I will probably try to listen to the podcast too, but I'm less likely to grasp much of that :P )
