1. Eligibility:

    • Participants must be students enrolled in an accredited educational institution.
    • Both individual and team submissions are allowed, with teams consisting of up to 4 members.
  2. Code of Conduct:

    • All participants are expected to adhere to the Hack Code of Conduct, which promotes a respectful and inclusive environment.
    • Any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification.
  3. Project Requirements:

    • Projects must be developed entirely during the hackathon duration. Pre-existing projects or codebases are not permitted.
    • All submissions must be original work. Plagiarism or use of unlicensed third-party materials will result in disqualification.
  4. Submission Guidelines:

    • All project submissions must be completed and submitted by the deadline specified in the event schedule.
    • Submissions should include a functional code repository, a video demonstration, and a detailed project description as outlined in the Submission Requirements.
  5. Intellectual Property:

    • Participants retain ownership of their projects and intellectual property.
    • By submitting a project, participants grant the organizers the right to use, distribute, and promote the project for hackathon-related purposes.
  6. Judging Criteria:

    • Projects will be judged based on creativity, technical difficulty, innovation, and relevance to the hackathon’s focus on beginner hacking and ML/AI.
    • The judges' decisions are final and binding.
  7. Prizes:

    • Prizes will be awarded to the top projects as determined by the judges.
    • In the event of a tie, the judges will deliberate further to determine the final winners.
  8. Disqualification:

    • Failure to comply with any of the hackathon rules or the code of conduct may result in disqualification at the discretion of the organizers.
    • Disqualified teams will forfeit any prizes or recognition they may have otherwise received.
  9. Communication:

    • All official communication will take place through designated channels (e.g., Slack, Discord). Participants are expected to monitor these channels for updates and announcements.
  10. Modifications:

    • The organizers reserve the right to modify the rules at any time. Any changes will be communicated to participants promptly.

This includes, but is not limited to, any issues related to the use of hackathon resources, interactions with other participants, or the outcomes of projects developed during the event.
  2. Prize Money:

    • The distribution of prize money is subject to the availability of funds and the discretion of the organizers. The organizers do not guarantee the provision of prize money and are not responsible for any discrepancies or delays in prize distribution. Participants acknowledge that prize money, if awarded, is provided "as is" without any warranties or guarantees.
  3. Sponsorship and Identity:

    • The organizers strive to accurately represent all sponsorships and affiliations. However, they are not liable for any misrepresentations or misunderstandings regarding sponsorships or the identity of sponsors. Participants should independently verify any claims related to sponsorship and should not rely solely on representations made by the organizers.
  4. Project Ownership and Intellectual Property:

    • Participants retain ownership of their projects and intellectual property. However, by submitting a project, participants grant the organizers a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, distribute, and promote the project for hackathon-related purposes.
  5. Compliance with Rules:

    • Participants are responsible for complying with all hackathon rules and guidelines. Failure to adhere to the rules may result in disqualification at the discretion of the organizers. Disqualified teams forfeit any prizes or recognition they may have otherwise received.
  6. Modification of Terms:

    • The organizers reserve the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time. Any changes will be communicated to participants promptly. Continued participation in the hackathon constitutes acceptance of any revised terms.

By registering for and participating in CalCodeFest, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these terms and conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please refrain from participating in the hackathon.
