was that really on glee? i thought that was like the alterna-friendliest show on network tv or something? or is it just gay-friendly because it's okay to be male and gay now, but everything else is still too "weird"?

I have never, never thought of Glee as genuinely queer-friendly. I used to describe it as "diversity for privileged people." I haven't watched the show in ages, but from what I hear, they treat the white gay boy really well in terms of coverage, plot/character development, etc. but there is a gay latina girl and she is essentially thrown under the bus - aside from having no real relationships, my favourite part was when she was outed by a white het guy and was expected to be grateful for it. Edit: I ALMOST FORGOT my second favourite part was when they used Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" in the whole outing episode. AND NOT EVEN IRONICALLY, OKAY.

I cannot 100% verify the quote in the original post (like I said, I suspect it was taken out of context) but the show was been responsible for a lot of other fuckery on the LGB front already and it makes me sad that this is considered to be the most mainstream, popular queer-friendly show.

...it has been a while since I have thought too hard about TV lulz.

This computes. I've never seen it, but a friend works on it. She says it's "OMG SO PROGESSIVE" but she's the same person that responded "you can DO that?!" when a mutual friend announced they were transitioning FTM.

ETA: I'm sorry I blacked out during the "Katy Perry" part of your comment. dlifjgkjerpoigepursogjegfd no words for how much I loathe her, not even getting into the stupidity of that usage.

OH PEE ESS. Apparently wanting kids toys to come in diverse colors and lifestyles is expecting too much from a toy company.

ugh, I hated that episode. What makes it worse is that they had Kurt, who was being built up as the Gay Messiah, deliver that line. People tried to defend him by saying he was just angry and jealous, but the episode doesn't really show that he's wrong.

My theory is that Kurt is basically everything Ryan Murphy was or wanted to be as a teen, which is why he gets away with everything. This is entirely unfounded because I don't know anything about Murphy aside from his public moments of complete, utter fail, but that's the impression I get!
