⚠ This page mixes confirmed information with industry rumors and speculation. We’ll keep it updated as new details and leaks come to light.

A stake through the heart can’t really keep a good vampire down, as Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has surfaced. It’s the first new Castlevania game in 12 years. Developed by the team behind Dead Cells and set hundreds of years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, there’s a lot of promise behind the upcoming side-scrolling vampire adventure to sink our teeth into.

While there’s been no concrete Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release date announced yet, we do know the rough window for it: 2026. That’s the first 2D Castlevania game in nearly two decades (if you count the DS spin-off Order of Ecclesia). We’re going through the latest news, gameplay, price speculation, and more further down the page.

The Escapist recaps

  • Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is the first new game in the series for over 12 years, and the first 2D entry in nearly two decades.
  • The game is being developed in tandem with Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin, featuring a brand new art style and a refined focus on traversal.
  • Unlike previous games, Belmont’s Curse sees a new member of the vampire-slaying bloodline as the protagonist, instead of mainstays such as Trevor or Richter.
  • Belmont’s Curse is set 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, in 1499, with the location revealed to be Paris, France.
  • No Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release date is known yet; however, the game has been confirmed for a 2026 release window. We predict it will drop in Summer (Q3).
  • While no pricing has been officially announced, we predict that Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will cost between $25 and $30 based on the studio’s previous games.

When could Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse be released?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be released sometime this year, according to the reveal trailer broadcast at Sony’s February 2026 State of Play conference. It’s being developed in a joint collaboration with Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin. It’s tough to speculate on the exact window of release, but we think that Q3 (July to September) is the safest bet, all things considered.

Summer seems right for the Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release window for an indie game of this scope and size. We should stress that nothing has been officially confirmed by Konami or its associated developers yet, so we’ll update you as soon as an official release date is known. Until then, we think it will be at least four months away.

How much could Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse cost?

No official Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse price has been revealed yet; however, we can speculate on the AA 2D platformer’s MSRP by looking at the associate studios’ back catalog. Motion Twin’s Dead Cells dropped for $24.99 in 2018, as did its 2024 game, Windblown. This is the same $24.99 MSRP as Evil Empire’s The Rogue Prince of Persia from last year. Based on this, we estimate that Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse could retail between $25-30.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Motion Twin or Evil Empire collaborate with Konami’s storied vampire franchise. Previously, in 2023, there was the Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania expansion for $9.99. Now, the two studios are scaling up to a full-sized adventure in league with some of the franchise’s biggest games. As such, a price tag three times that of the DLC seems most appropriate.

Confirmed Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse platforms

While the release date and pricing aren’t set in stone yet, we do know the confirmed Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse platforms list, which currently includes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. That means gamers across all platforms will be able to enjoy some vampire-slaying action. Despite being revealed at Sony’s event, the game (thankfully) isn’t exclusive to its platforms. Curiously, there’s no PS4 support, though.

What is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse about?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse gameplay showing whip-based traversal through a gothic ruin
The Vampire Killer holy whip returns, and allows for new traversal options. Image credit: Konami

Billed as a successor to Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Belmont’s Curse is set 23 years later in Paris, France, in the year 1499. It follows a brand-new member of the Belmont family who has wielded the legendary Vampire Killer holy whip, making a triumphant return to the series. From the limited Belmont’s Curse gameplay available, it looks to be an evolved form of what we saw in Super Castlevania IV

As well as being able to offensively move the holy whip in all directions, you’re also able to utilize the Vampire Killer for traversal, which adds a new layer of verticality to the franchise not yet seen. According to the PlayStation Blog, there will also be a sword (as well as more unannounced weaponry and tools to take advantage of), which makes the newest member of the Belmont lineage among its deadliest.

Then there’s the Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse graphics and new art style on display. The clear influence of Motion Twin and Evil Empire is apparent here, as the upcoming 2D side-scroller looks stunning; particular focus is placed on the baked-in lighting and the darkness in each corner, with maps dripping with atmosphere. It’s something the series has always nailed (or staked), but things look truly next-level here. It won’t be pushing any of the hardware it’s on, but we’re excited to see how fast and fluid the next chapter is.

The game looks just as gothic and oppressive as franchise mainstays like Symphony of the Night, but it still benefits from a splash of color, too. Medieval Paris looks grim but gorgeous, with the harsh orange glows of bonfires, deep reds of the Witching Hour, and sharp yellows of sodium lighting for its exteriors. That’s to say nothing of the fast combat and the hints at bosses, which look to be evolved from the slower, lumbering presence seen in previous games.

Belmont’s Curse looks to be a faithful retro reimagining, not just a straightforward legacy sequel. To us, it seems like it’s cut from the same cloth as Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, or even Sonic Mania. How outsider teams can pump fresh blood into older franchises with respect, care, and love that they deserve. It’s early days for the upcoming Castlevania game, but the early signs are promising. We’ll regularly update our page with more information as it becomes available.

Ask The Escapist

Is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse coming to Switch 2?

The game has been announced for the Switch and will be playable on the Switch 2 console, even if no specific version for Nintendo’s more recent handheld is coming (yet).

Will Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse be on Xbox?

Yes, despite its announcement at Sony’s State of Play event, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is coming to Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PS5 sometime in 2026.

Is the Castlevania anime worth watching?

Absolutely. The Castlevania anime retells the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and loosely adapts plotlines from Symphony of the Night. It would be good homework ahead of Belmont’s Curse later this year.

Ashes of Creation’s founder, Steven Sharif, has been accused of never spending any of his own money on the failed MMORPG.

Earlier in February, long-awaited Ashes of Creation finally made it to Steam, just to be announced dead just a few months later. As a result, Intrepid Studios shut down, with all employees being let go.

At the time, MMORPG fans were torn. On one hand, they’d crowdfunded millions into the game that appeared to be one big scam. On the other hand, Sharif had seemed super passionate and had put in millions of his own money.

Or so he said.

Ashes of Creation was funded by a ton of MLM guys, who all want to sue Sharif

Investor Jason Caramanis has since come out and claimed that he lost $12.5 million on Ashes of Creation during a livestream. Meanwhile, he states Sharif spent no money of his own despite previous statements that he has put in nearly $60 million over the past few years.

While Sharif allegedly didn’t invest his own money, Caramanis and his partner, John Moore, were forced to continuously pay Intrepid Studio employees’ salaries, reaching $500,000 a year. This is despite Sharif earning about $140 million towards Ashes of Creation through crowdfunding, private investments, and loans.

Image

Caramanis wasn’t the only investor to lose money by believing in Sharif’s promises. Other people also trusted Sharif with millions, including Robert Dawson — he invested $80 million between 2022 and 2025, according to Caramanis. Meanwhile, Sharif was apparently not providing any tax returns or records for nine years — even after Caramanis filed a lawsuit in an attempt to see company records.

To no surprise, Intrepid Studios was hemorrhaging money at a rapid pace by 2025, with monthly expenses over $2.5 million. Revenue from in-game purchases reached about $200,0000, meaning the company was losing $2.3 million a month.

It seemed like the final nail in the coffin when cloud services provider SADA Systems filed a lawsuit in late 2025 for over $850,000 for three years of unpaid Google Cloud Platform services. Sharif had dismissed this on Reddit as a normal business experience, but the studio shut down months later.

Dawson demanded that 70% of the Intrepid Studios staff should be laid off, frustrated at investing $80 million with nothing in return. Sharif refused. Instead, he resigned and took the $3.7 million that the game earned from Steam. Caramanis called this a “deliberate act of sabotage” by Sharif.

Is Ashes of Creation dead?

On Discord, Sharif claimed that he didn’t agree with the direction of the board as the studio closed, making it seem like he was a passionate victim rather than a scheming mastermind. Some fans of the game believed it, but others felt the entire thing was pretty suspicious coming from someone who worked at a multi-level marketing company for years.

In all honesty, I’m shocked that Caramanis and other investors even trusted him (although many of them were MLM bros as well).

At this point, Dawson controls the Ashes of Creation intellectual property and there are multiple lawsuits in the works. Caramanis claims that Sharif committed federal crimes of all sorts, stating that he can prove it with documentation, texts, and other tea.

“There’s nothing I’m saying that is slanderous or libelous about Stephen. He’s a pathological nutcase liar. And guess what? You’re going to see numerous lawsuits come out against him for fraud, for whatever else. All this is going to come out in litigation,” Caramanis said.

Dawson is looking into ways to continue developing Ashes of Creation, and it looks like more investors have come to its aid — although they are sketchy too. Even if Ashes of Creation can come back, the trust between the team and the players who donated millions of dollars may be hard to mend.

Overwatch players are sick of Jetpack Cat.

After years of begging from the Overwatch community, the Jetpack Cat concept that was revealed in 2017 was added to Overwatch “2” as part of the massive Season 1 overhaul. Along with four other heroes, Jetpack Cat arrived as a support with insane mobility and the ability to carry around other players.

And in true gamer fashion, the Overwatch community wants her gone after just a few days.

Should Jetpack Cat be banned?

For the past few days, Overwatch players have been expressing extreme frustration with Jetpack Cat, calling her “game-breaking” and demanding that Blizzard do something since she gets continuously banned in Ranked matches.

Jetpack Cat is a pretty easy hero to learn due to her low skill ceiling and low focus on aiming. Being able to heal allies or damage enemies with the same key feels pretty mindless to competitive players. That, combined with her insane mobility, makes her quite a nuisance — sort of like a fly buzzing around your ear that you can’t seem to swat due to her small hitboxes.

Meanwhile, Jetpack Cat is flying around the map, pinging the locations of enemies for unfair intel and near impossible to flank.

jetpack cat concept

But perhaps the most egregious part of her kit is her ultimate, allowing Jetpack Cat to instantly kill her target. There is almost no way to escape Jetpack Cat’s grasp — most healing and shields won’t let you loose.

“Jetpack Cat takes Overwatch and turns it into some kind of a RTS/bloons mobile game meme,” ranted one Overwatch player. “The cat is so frustratingly, game-breakingly, fun-ruiningly horrible to play against that I honestly think the only explanation is that this hero was not planned or tested and was rushed out as a part of this update on the demands of some Redditor marketing exec to pander and build hype.”

Jetpack Cat was not tested enough at all

Whether you feel Jetpack Cat is a breath of fresh air, offering a break from generic hot female heroes, or find her to be a game-breaking, sloppy design that ruins the game, one thing is for certain: Blizzard rushed her out.

It truly does feel like Jetpack Cat was part of a Hail Mary from Blizzard as it struggled to remain relevant. It feels like devs saw the popularity of Jeff the Shark in Marvel Rivals and wanted to unleash their own cute little guy. And I honestly respect it. Making massive changes to a shooter is a huge risk and it largely paid off.

However, why wasn’t Jetpack Cat tested? No betas, no trial periods, nothing. In the past, heroes spent a few weeks on Quick Play before getting added to competitive, but Jetpack Cat seemed to bypass this process and arrived right into the ranked game.

As a result, competitive players are banning Jetpack Cat at an alarming rate. You can yell “skill issue” all day, but that doesn’t make Jetpack Cat less annoying to deal with. That doesn’t make Jetpack Cat a better, balanced hero design.

There are rumors going around that Blizzard banned Jetpack Cat from competitive to rework her, but devs haven’t actually confirmed anything. They’re too busy posting Valentine’s Day stuff. And honestly, maybe Overwatch players should spend some time with loved ones rather than rant about this stupid cat.

⚠ This page mixes confirmed information with industry rumors and speculation. We’ll keep it updated as new details and leaks come to light.

After years of fan requests, Sony has announced the God of War trilogy remake is real and on the cards for the PlayStation 5 in the (hopefully) near future. While we’re a long way off from any confirmed God of War trilogy release date; however, that doesn’t stop us from speculating on when we could see Kratos back in action.

We’re going through everything you need to know about the upcoming God of War trilogy remake, including TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos, who made the announcement. OG TC is back as the Ghost of Sparta, replacing Christopher Judge, who has played the character since 2018.

The Escapist recaps

  • The God of War trilogy remake was announced at Sony’s State of Play in February 2026.
  • It was revealed by OG Kratos voice actor TC Carson, who is returning to the role after being replaced by Christopher Judge from the modern games.
  • The game is said to be in early development, meaning it is unlikely we will see the new trilogy until 2027 or 2028 at the earliest.
  • It’s currently unknown whether the new God of War trilogy remake will follow the spectacle-fighter formula of the original versions or adapt the modern gameplay of the 2018 reboot and its sequel.

When could the God of War trilogy remake be released?

For as exciting as the God of War trilogy remake announcement is, we’re still (likely) a very long time from actually seeing it materialize. Currently, we only have the reveal video and TC Carson’s backing for the reveal, with only a series of graphics and logos to go on. Traditionally, Sony tends to be two/three years out when revealing a game for the first time, and considering we’re only getting logos without details here, we think we’ll be waiting until at least 2027 or 2028 at the earliest.

That begs the question of the God of War trilogy remake platforms, then, too. Considering it is “early in development”, we think that PS5 is a certainty, but it also opens the door for the PS6. After all, how stacked of a launch lineup would it be if Sony came storming out of the gate with new hardware and a killer system seller out of the gate? God of War Ragnarok debuted in November 2022 and was the hot IP on the PS5 in its second year on the market, despite being cross-platform with the PS4. We could see similar here, too.

How much could the God of War trilogy remake cost?

No official God of War trilogy remake price has been revealed yet; however, we’re expecting this flagship title to debut brand new at the now-standard $70 for the standard edition. That’s us being conservative. It’s (unfortunately) more likely that the game could cost $80 or even $90 for the game, given the way the AAA market has scaled over the past few years, doubly so when weighing up a digital or physical version.

Then we need to consider that there will probably be a God of War trilogy remake Collector’s Edition to debut alongside the game. We saw this practice with God of War Ragnarok three years ago. For $200, you received a 16-inch replica of Mjölnir, a steelbook, and wooden carvings. Curiously, you did not receive a physical disc with your purchase. The God of War remake from 2018 featured a $130 Collector’s Edition that included statues of Kratos and Atreus.

What could the God of War trilogy remake play like?

The biggest question we’ve had concerns the God of War trilogy remake gameplay. We’ve only got a teaser to go on, but we hope for an authentic, ground-up spectacle fighter rather than the more cinematic over-the-shoulder approach of the two reboot games. God of War 2018 and Ragnarok have their place in Sony’s lineup, with fans all their own, but to properly remake and deliver the action of the first three games in the series, it will mean honoring the source material.

God of War was never as technical or demanding as Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry. While far from simplistic, the original trilogy of games was more about delivering on a power fantasy in combat and giving you over-the-top boss fights rather than long and elaborate combo lists to master. We’re hopeful that Santa Monica Studio takes a similar approach to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black with its remakes; not just a port to another engine, but delivering the same core experience on modern hardware.

It’s been a long time since the God of War trilogy has been playable in its entirety. The last time you could get your hands on it officially was with the God of War Saga in 2012, which brought together the original three games and the two PSP spin-offs, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, in HD to the PS3. That was getting on for 15 years ago, meaning fans of the franchise’s old style have been starving for anything that pays homage to the character’s Greek tapestry.

There’s still a massive market and potential for a new modern series of spectacle fighters. The biggest success for the genre in recent times was Shift Up’s Stellar Blade, which dropped in 2024 and was published by Sony. It’s sold over six million copies as of January, proving there’s still life in its veins. We are hopeful that Santa Monica retains and refines the core classic God of War gameplay for its remake series, but we won’t know for sure until a proper gameplay trailer drops, which is unlikely (though not impossible) for 2026.

Ask The Escapist

Will there be a God of War trilogy remake?

Yes, Sony has confirmed at the February State of Play that a God of War trilogy remake is in early development. The announcement was made by OG Kratos voice actor TC Carson.

Will the God of War trilogy remake come to PC?

While the God of War trilogy remake platforms haven’t been confirmed yet, it’s highly likely that the new remakes will arrive on PC. Both modern God of War games are on the platform, as are other first-party titles such as Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Days Gone.

Is God of War coming in 2026?

A God of War game has arrived in 2026, although it isn’t the newly revealed trilogy remake. A spin-off 2D action game called God of War: Sons of Sparta, which shadow-dropped and is available now for $29.99.

After the successful launch of the base set introduced iconic champions from League of Legends and Arcane, Spiritforged has taken the fantasy further with a new strong focus: League’s items as actual cards.

Imagine Draven’s Twin Axes flying across the board, or Jax  finally getting some real weapons and beating down the opponents. That’s the authentic champion fantasy Spiritforged delivers.

Items-as-cards transform the meta

Spiritforged’s core innovation is turning iconic League items into playable cards, fundamentally changing deck construction. The standout example is Miracle Draven, a hyper-aggressive deck running Twin Axes and other equipment that captures Draven’s personality perfectly. The deck has even gained traction in the competitive Chinese meta, proving the concept works at high levels, leading to unkillable boards that take over and conquer games.

Equipment-focused archetypes shine throughout the set. Jax’s lore states he’s so skilled with weapons that he uses a lamppost instead. And that shines through in the card game. His deck is about him getting different equipment to use, which leads to some serious power stacking on units.

Meanwhile, Lucian, the gunslinger, wants agile weaponry to enhance his mobile playstyle, combined with classic Lucian themed spells to match his dashing and prodding as Lucian does in game. Azir’s Sand Soldiers use equipment, mirroring how devastating they become with Nashor’s Tooth in the main game.

These aren’t just mechanical synergies; they’re faithful translations of champion identity into card form. Spiritforged nails the feeling you get from certain League character designs and translating it over once again to Riftbound

Two major problems hold Riftbound back

Despite strong gameplay, Riftbound faces serious accessibility issues that new players will struggle with.

Cards constantly reference Sand Soldiers, Gold Gear tokens,Sprites, mechs and ther tokens. Yet, actually obtaining these essential game pieces is a randomized lottery. I attended a Pre-Rift event with a starter kit and five boosters and didn’t pull a single Gold Gear token, despite multiple cards in my pool generating them. Half my deck was incomprehensible without the physical token to reference or prior knowledge of reading up before the event.

Azir yellow decks spam Sand Soldiers. Most colors generate Gold. Seeing “create a Gold Gear token” on five different cards while having no idea what that token does makes deck building frustrating and learning needlessly convoluted. You often get a strange token from every other pack, but if you don’t get it, then it’s really odd to learn the game.

It would be nice if Riot managed to make it easier to get Tokens. The starter decks in the first set of Viktor and Lee SIn gave some recruit tokens and buff cards. So that made those easier. But still missing flavour recruit tokens for Garen / Darius Decks, and the same applies here with Gold Ger Tokens and Sand Soldiers.

It just makes getting those cards a bit annoying.

The other issue is round length. Standard 1-hour slots for best-of-three matches are wildly optimistic. My Ezreal vs Irelia control mirror took 50 minutes for a single game, making the best-of-three format effectively unresolvable. Whoever won that game essentially won the series due to realistic time constraints because of how back-and-forth the game is.

Aggro decks move faster, and experienced players make quicker decisions, but from watching competitive streams, lengthy games are typically the norm. Sealed Pre-Rift events especially drag as players puzzle through unfamiliar interactions, which could be skewing my perception of the game there. But it feels like most games can go long. It’s something to certainly monitor as they design the next few sets.

Collecting Spiritforged is genuinely fun and really pretty

Beyond gameplay, Spiritforged nails presentation. The Spring-themed alt-art variants are gorgeous. I pulled a Singed Teemo that reimagines the champion in an entirely new aesthetic. Spiritforged Vayne, Bard, and others feature similarly striking alternate takes that make ripping packs exciting even if you’re not chasing meta staples.

Picture of cards from Riftbound's Spiritforged Set
Image via The Escpaist.

Gold Gear tokens are a step forward

I know I complained about Gold Gear, especially from deck constructing and learning the game. However, this card is also a really nice solution to a Set 1 meta problem. This mana system lets you play powerful cards by setting your resources back a turn or two via recycling runes.. The base set required expensive Seal cards to make this mechanic viable, pricing out budget players.

Gold Gear essentially operates at a similar mechanical level, and even bake interactions into a lot of common cards. Many units across all color sets can generate them, making Recycling Runes accessible without hunting down pricey singles. Sivir decks still run premium options, but casual players can now interact with the system meaningfully. It’s a smart design fix that improves deck diversity. Legend cards like Renata and to some extent Sivir are even designed around playing those cards to make things interesting.

From my experience so far, the set appeals to competitive grinder, League fans get authentic champion fantasy, and collectors get genuinely beautiful cards. That broad appeal is rare in modern TCGs. Riot is on track for an awesome product so far, and Spiritforged is helping to show how special the rules are, and just how great Riot’s art continues to be even off the digital platform.

Keanu Reeves is about to be in a video game.

The billion-dollar action film franchise John Wick is going to be made into a video game, with Reeves’ voice and likeness as the main draw.

While the trailer, revealed during PlayStation’s State of Play showcase, showed incredible visuals and intense fighting sequences, the gaming community seemed largely invested in callbacks to the film. Indeed, Saber Interactive worked closely with the film franchise’s director Chad Stahelsk to ensure it reflected the film.

What we know about “Untitled John Wick Game” so far

As you can probably guess from the temporary name of the game, not much is known about “Untitled John Wick Game” so far.

The release date is currently unknown, but we know it will be released for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will probably never come to Nintendo Switch 2 since it’s “tailored for adult audiences,” but who knows these days.

When it comes to the story, it seems that Untitled John Wick Game takes place before the movie series. It’s unclear what the plot will be, but it seems like it will have a very similar storyline and action to the movies.

Saber Interactive’s Chief Executive Matthew Karch said he was “honored” to work alongside Stahelski and Reeves to “bring the world of Wick to life.” This includes its “brand-defying fight choreography,” according to Lionsgate’s President of Global Products, Jenefer Brown.

Keanu Reeves is no stranger to appearing in video games. He was also a character in Cyberpunk 2077, although modders notoriously made it so you could bang Reeves in the game before the mod was banned.
