⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Run
Age: 23
Canon: Akame ga Kill!
Canon Point: In the middle of chapter 48; after he's tortured Champ, but before he realizes he failed to finish him off. To ensure MAXIMUM DRAMA.

Background: Thank god for fandom wikis.

Personality: At first glance, Run seems like the very picture of a gentleman: he's calm, he's got a pleasant smile, and above all, he's easy to work with and understands social situations very well. He's observant, smart, and restrained. That is, however, not the entire story. Underneath his calm smile lurks a strong determination and a will of steel - once he wants something, he plots silently until he can reach out and take it. He's capable and willing to use extremely underhanded tactics to advance in his goals, even going so far as to seduce multiple women and go out of his way to do favors for people he personally despises in order to get on their good side. While he has, at this canon point, already exacted the revenge he sought for his dead students, the underlying factors of his personality that led to his desire for revenge in the first place are all still present.

One of those factors is his fondness for children (or, in some cases, child-like adults). He was a teacher who adored his students, and was in return adored by them, so it's natural he's skilled at and enjoys dealing with them, so those instincts act up whenever he's around comrades of a younger age. He is extremely protective of Kurome in particular, who is still a teenager; he willingly sacrifices himself in order to protect her, and is thinking and feeling for her sake even up until the moment he dies. He has a similar relationship with Wave, the aforementioned child-like adult, forcibly silencing him when he acts up in front of the Prime Minister's son, and offering an apology to smooth things over though he's just as frustrated and angry as Wave is by the entire ordeal. He's good at handling social disasters, in other words, and he's relied upon to ensure negotiations go smoothly as well. He's persuasive and charismatic, so he seems like a trustworthy guy to a lot of people.

His greatest strength, as noted by several characters, is that he's very good at reading people, and is thus able to get on their good sides easily, knowing exactly how to make them comfortable with him and getting them to lower their guard. This makes deception his specialty, particularly with regard to hiding his feelings. He's often seen with a graceful, serene smile on his face, and his expression remains even and calm even in situations that put him under extreme emotional or physical duress. I want to stress, given the nature of this game, that his emotions aren't actually dampened by this act. He experiences them to the same extent as an average person, but has an excellent sense of restraint, so although he may want to deck the person in front of him, he'll try to diffuse the tension instead, and if someone is concerned about him, he'll do his best to wave it off, and so on. He always does his best to protect and take care of the people he grows attached to, always willing to comfort them or offer them advice even while he suffers.

As an aside, the only time his expression seems to falter with any regularity (besides situations directly related to him taking his revenge) is when he sees street performers, clowns in particular, because that was the occupation of the man who killed his students. It seems to be a gut reaction, because he has had this reaction multiple times without knowing for sure whether the clown he was looking at was the killer.

He's good at thinking on his feet, doing his best not to get ahead of himself; he's the kind of person who spends months, even years planning something before executing it, just so he knows how to deal with any interruptions or unexpected events. He's intelligent, too, with a specialty in investigation and tactics. He's essentially the second-in-command of the Jaegers for this reason, as well as his maturity, especially compared to most of the other members. (Like Wave.) He has a strong sense of justice, and it is, in line with his personality, far more measured and even than most of his colleagues; he is the only member of the Jaegers who has outright admitted that he would've likely joined the Revolutionary Army had he not decided to change the Empire from within. However, he ended up joining the Jaegers and moving up the social ladder because operating covertly is simply how he does things, as he prefers not to draw attention to himself. Above all, he supports people; he isn't a leader. Even his job as a teacher is an extension of this aspect of his personality, because he's changing the future by educating and supporting children, rather than changing the future directly.

Abilities: Aside from above-average reflexes and reaction time that are mentioned exactly one time and never brought up again, Run isn't particularly amazing by himself. However, he does own an Imperial Arm called Mastema, which allows him flight. When he's using it, it manifests as white feathered wings on his back, reminiscent of an angel. When it's not active, it takes the form of two floating discs hovering behind his shoulders. He can shoot sharpened feathers off of them at high speeds in order to fend off enemies. Every Imperial Arm has a trump card, and Mastema's is a defensive move that completely reflects damage and projectiles. It's implied this trump card takes a lot of energy, though, so he probably can't use it for long periods of time or in quick succession.

There's also an offhand comment about how he can't fly for extended periods of time, but a concrete restriction is never given. All we know for sure is that this flight time is at least suitable for thorough aerial reconnaissance.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

First Person Sample: here!

Third Person Sample:

Run has only been here for a week, and since it seems there's little he can do to leave, even with the wings of Mastema, all he can do is try his best to adapt for the time being. He's always been good at information gathering, so he's using that strength to his advantage, taking notes on everything he sees, vividly describing the reactions his own emotions have induced in the environment around him. The problem is that, on occasion, his own mixed feelings about being here have destroyed some of his notes. Burn marks have appeared around the edges, obscuring words and letters, and that's when he knows it's time to put them away for a while, if only so they don't fall prey to his very first set, which is completely unusable.

It's a perplexing place to be sure. He'd been skeptical at first, and bothered when he realized the extent to which emotions had an effect on his surroundings. If the amulets are the key to getting home - and he has no way of knowing the truth about that for sure, but no other alternative suggestion has presented itself - then all he has to do is take it in stride, right? But, of course, that's easier said than done, especially for someone as cautious as Run. It's difficult to take walls down after they've been so firmly built up in one's heart, and so as much as he would like an opportunity to relax, especially following the recent stressful events in his life, he can't bring himself to take this one just yet.

He pauses mid-sentence, staring down at the piece of paper in front of him; the pen has sprung a leak, leaving a large ink blot on the paper. Luckily, it's still a fairly empty page; it looks like this will be salvageable.

He crumples the pen up in the wad of paper and extracts another: his second paper of the day. He's sure it won't be his last.

Questions: none!
