Memory: Neutral Neutral - Magic Training
Regained: Day 52, Dealer (Apples Against Humanity)
Form:
A tea bag (Earl Grey flavoured) that looks like a tampon. (1/1 uses remain)
Contents: Neferti has become stronger, training with the other squires, but she does not believe it good enough. Today, once again, they are doing paired training, but as usual she finds herself distracted. The squires tended to be paired together by opposing skill levels- The worst would be paired with the best. That way, the worst would improve from influence and training from the best, but the best would be forced to learn how to fight against the desperation and trickery that comes from being outmatched.
Of course, in a class where she was the only Bast, Neferti was by far the worst. Which meant her opponent, the training partner she was always faced with and helped by, was the strongest. And right now, she stands serenely while fire chases Neferti around the room. Neferti runs and evades, her eye keeping her ahead of the flames, but it is not enough. She attempts to cast fire back at it, to shield herself, but each time she stops to cast, she is too slow and must abandon her spell to continue fleeing. But even that does not last- She catches a glimpse of her foe out of the corner of her eye, and finds herself distracted for just long enough for the fire to catch up to her.
Without so much as a motion, her foe put the fire out, before approaching Neferti and offering her a hand. Neferti's ears flatten and her cheeks flush, though she could not place why. Anger at being pitied? Shame for doing so poorly? Regardless, she takes the hand, and... without intending to, nearly pulls her partner down on top of her. She curses in her head for not paying more attention; even she could not lift a Bast up so easily. She quickly jumped upright and helped her up instead, apologizing awkwardly.
Her partner- Ariel, her name is- simply smiles gracefully and assures her it is no problem. Neferti feels her cheeks flush, feeling ashamed at her own failings while this girl the same age as herself was so graceful. She quickly steps back and requests to get back to practicing. Ariel nods, and takes the defending position.
Neferti stares, shaping the flow of her magic, but there is no force to them at all. Ariel barely moves, as her wind blows out Neferti's fire, metal draws her lightning, and so on. Each of Neferti's attacks is almost laughably weak. She has trouble remaining still, twitching with each attack, a sure sign of incompetence... Or so she feels.
Finally, Ariel simply raises her hand, and Neferti's fire turns back at her. Defeated, Neferti falls once more, and once more, Ariel offers her a hand. This time, however, Neferti rises properly, and Ariel remains holding on to her hand.
Your magic is too stiff, she says. You must be holding to an image of a magician, but it makes you too inflexible to use your magic properly.
Humbled, Neferti nods, though she is distracted by the feeling of Ariel's hand still on hers. She had been mimicking Ariel, she admits, as Ariel was the strongest magician and the strongest opponent. Ariel smiles and clasps Neferti's hand in her own, smiling. She is flattered, she says, but that will not allow either of them to become stronger. Neferti simply agrees quietly.
A few days later, they reconvene to try again. This time, Neferti has practiced, and uses her new idea: She thrusts a hand at Ariel, as ice fires from it with immense force. Ariel is immediately forced onto the defensive, but Neferti doesn't let up. Lightning follows ice, each spell channeled through a limb and fired off like an extension of her body. Though Ariel gets behind her, in the end, Neferti flicks a small bolt of lightning from her tail at her foe, taking her by surprise... and leading to her counterattacking with a much larger bolt.
Once again, Ariel helps Neferti upright, healing her wounds at the same time. That was much better, she said with a smile.
Neferti flushed again, ears flattening in shame at her loss, and nodded her thanks.
Effects: Magic ability up! Knowing how to properly use magic, etc.
