Neferti's bike rumbles under her hands. Its wheels spin as she drives along the narrow road, barely wide enough to walk on, much less ride- But to chase her prey, she has no other routes. It's not even a true road, just a walkway along the bridges connecting the islands of Chetes, more for technicians to reinforce the bridges than for someone like her to ride on.

The monster she seeks flies in front of her. A narrow but long body, with a pointed face, its long mouth showing a long row of fangs. Fins jutted out from the sides, a row on each side to where it resembled a long line of wings, with bizarre tentacles from its underbelly. A chimera-type monster... One formed when monsters fed on each other, the magic within each mutating the predator with traits from the prey. The most troublesome type, in Neferti's opinion- It made it difficult to guess at what its abilities may be.

The sky is dark overhead, with no lights but the stars, the lights of the city on either end of the bridge, and the lights from her bike. She grimaces- If the monster gets away in the dark, she might not be able to find it again. She has to catch up.

The lights on her dashboard show her what she needs to know. Her speed. Engine heat. Onboard power. Her own magic reserves to supplement it. And looking ahead... She nods to herself, grimly.

The bridge is about to end. Neferti reaches forward, hand off the handles, and draws her sword from its slot in the ignition. And with her free hand, she twists the acceleration, leaping her bike off the narrow walkway, and pours all of her magic power into the engine. With a mighty roar, her bike shoots forward, flying through the air with the glow of her magic behind her. She raises her sword, and with the edge of her blade and the speed of her bike, she's cleaved off all of the fin-wings on one side, letting the monster crash to the ground with a blood-curdling screech.

Neferti doesn't give it time to get back up. It tries to pull itself up to stand on those tentacles, but she's already spun her bike around, hitting the ground again and braking, letting the momentum fling her forward. She crashed the monster against the ground, true, but it was still the island's edge, next to the bridge- It could easily crush the bridge, or escape back into the water. She wouldn't let it.

It turns on her with a roar, trying to snap its jaws down on her. Her hands are full, trying to parry the jaws, the tentacles, everything- She's almost overwhelmed. It's all she can do to stay alive, but the monster has much more energy left than she does after her flying stunt...

She finally lets her sword drop to her side, and draws her hand back, thrusting it forward at the monster's gaping maw as it lunges for her... And with all her remaining magic power, a giant spike of ice is flung, spearing the monster through.

Neferti has long-since been desensitized to the blood and gore of her job, but even by those standards, that was a spectacularly messy way to kill an enemy. She used too much magic to do it, too, exhausting her, and frankly, the amount of power she flung around would be enough to summon more monsters... She grimaces. Her grandfather would have never made this kind of mistake. She takes a towel from her bike's storage, cleaning the blood from her gauntlets and her sword, before putting her sword in its slot in the bike and twisting, sending a communication to the nearest knight barracks.

"This is Neferti. I've slain a chimera on the edge of 28-10. A lot of magic was used to get it before it got to civilians. More monsters may be incoming."

"Understood." The reply comes quickly. "Cleanup is coming, and reinforcements soon."

As Neferti waits for her reinforcements, she has time to reflect on her mistakes in this. Too much magic. Her bike's flight takes too much energy to use effectively like that... To fly home at a leisurely pace is one thing, to sustain flight at speeds enough to cleanly cut off a monster's side? Was too much. Then spending the rest of her magic on one messy kill... She was a fool. Now she was going to be dead weight to her reinforcements.

The lights from more motorcycles shine in the distance, getting her attention. Time for self-loathing will come later, she thinks. She has a job to do now.
